I ordered my new babies! EEEEEEEEE! :celebrate I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. This is the first time that I've ordered online/thru the mail. I guess I need to pay a trip to my local post office and talk to them about what to do. I've got time tho. They should be here in between March 12-14. And then they'll be in the house for 6 weeks or so, so it should be plenty warm for them outside at night. If I need to adjust the timing then I can. No big deal. I am amazed at how fast some chickens sell out. I never would have thought that. I guess it just depends on the breed and it's popularity I guess.

YAAAYYY!!! Now we can impatiently wait together!! LOL yours will be here before mine!! And I think you will love your Meyer birds! I do! What breeds do you get!? EEEEEE!! And yes, some sell out crazy quickly! LOL kinda disappointing but thankfully they had all mine!! And sometimes if you check back a little closer to the hatchdate, more might come in stock! Like if someone cancelled an order or they hatched more than originally thought or something. And they are good about making changes to your order too if you find a breed you really wanted that wasn’t available now is or something they can usually add it or if you need to change the ship date or whatever. I have never done any of that or needed to call them but that is just from a lot of the reviews I have I read that they have excellent customer service.

:woot :highfive:
Yeah, I could have picked a later date but I decided to go with the first available. I got all of the breeds that I wanted except for an Olive Egger, but that is ok. They had 1 left but I wouldn't have been able to get my birds until JUNE! :th I didn't want to wait that long. I really feel like I am going to have a really good variety/mix of chickens.
Currently I have:
Males:
White Silkie
Porcelain Booted Bantam
Girls:
Black Australorp (4)
Black Jersey Giants (2)
Buff Orpington (1)
New Hampshire (1)

I ordered all Girls:
Colored Egg layers-

Easter Egger (2)
Lakeshore Egger (1)
Blue Ameraucana (1)

Dark Brown Layers-
Welsummer (1)
Golden Cuckoo Maran (1)

White Layers-
Austra White (1)
Blue Andalusian (1)

So basically a carton of eggs from me will be a mix of Medium and Large eggs from white to cream to nude to light brown to dark brown to colors of pastel green/teal/blue to bright blue.
I think that will make a really pretty carton. :love I can't wait! :wee

Sounds lovely! I can’t wait until our three colored layer pullets starting laying here soon. :)

Oooooohhhhh that will be a really pretty carton and flock for sure!!! I wanted some of those breeds but some of them are so expensive lol for example, I would love the pure Ameracauna and bright blue eggs but decided to just go with another EE lol I figure if I ever want an Ameracauna or any other more rare breed, I can likely find it cheaper around here maybe. But I do love the Ams and want some eventually. But I am so jealous of your flock lol you have so many unique breeds too! Now I kinda wish I had gotten a Wellie for the gorgeous speckled eggs lol but oh well.

Here is my flock.

Current flock (all hens):

1 Barred Rock
2 Black Australorps
2 Buff Orpingtons
2 Easter Eggers

New chicks (all girls again):

1 Easter Egger (yes I love Easter Eggers lol)
1 Delaware
1 Speckled Sussex
1 Partridge Rock
1 White Leghorn

Sounds lovely! I can’t wait until our three colored layer pullets starting laying here soon. :)

I love my colored eggs from mine :)

Oh and it seems the Olive Eggers are like always sold out so not surprising lol I don’t think they have very many of those birds, they only added them not that long ago, so I think they sell out faster than some of the other breeds. But that said, a lot of other breeds sell out too. Speckled Sussex seem to sell out fast too. I think the pretty breeds sell faster lol ones that are either pretty themselves or provide pretty eggs or both.

Um....my goose is taller than you.
He scares me. I will never get over the fear.
Carry a 5 foot long bamboo walking stick....keeps that gander away.

Um...would a Yeti type ice chest thing keep them from freezing?
I get orders from ValleyVet.com that have styrofoam lined boxes. For eggs, would need some air holes and a hand warmer.

DH is reading over my shoulder, he has okayed quail, except he doesn't want to eat them and I am not sure where I would keep them and not take away space allotted for the chickens.
A cage mounted on the wall still gives floor space for the chickens...

Very reason I don't often add birds to my flock unless I know the breeder doesn't use Marek vaccine.

Take an info card with you that has your name, address, phone number and delivery date range for live chick delivery. Plan to open your box at the post office and take photo of chicks with postal employee. Helps document any dead in transit chicks for replacement.

Nice clean coop! I would add a board along the front of your egg nest to keep eggs from rolling out onto the floor as the hens exit the nest.
