➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have considered quail and piracy, but I can't do either at the moment. I'm already at capacity for animals at my house. ....but my sister just put in an offer for a house. And the previous owner had chickens.;)
:wee:wee:wee
Does she have a bedroom with your name on it?

Also, did the previous owner leave because of the chickens. MAKE SURE ROOSTERS are legal!!!:fl

Currently there are no known mice in my house.
cat died last summer. within a week the chipmunks and voles took over the garden.
This fall the mice moved in parents old house. The teenages were sitting on the counter watching me on the computer. Easy chicken feed. Caught a few in bucket trap and a few in snap traps... When it got in the single digits, I figured they were not going outside and I put poison out.. no signs of mice now.... dog will try to kill but not eat them... of course this means even though I picked up the bait, I am not going to feed any house mice to the chickens just in case.

The previous owner had a few properties and decided to sell this one off. The city not only allows chickens (12 to my allowance of 4), but also let's them have a roo.

marking territory

Ahhh okay. None of my males have ever done that before. But then again all of ours were neutered but still. We have had 3 neutered male dogs and a neutered male cat and none of them marked. Even my brother’s 7 month old male puppy doesn’t mark and he is still intact. Most don’t mark if they’re trained right I think. In fact, our current female cat is the one who consistently pisses and poops outside the litter box.

Like everyone else, I crossed the Cream Legbars with Rose Comb Brown leghorns. I used a Legbar rooster over the Brown Leghorn hens but you can do it either way. The Rose Comb is dominant so you know right away if the offspring are carrying that trait. All of the first generation offspring will have one blue egg gene and one white egg gene. Unfortunately breeding the white egg gene back out takes a little longer.

Physically the offspring are autosexing just like legbar chicks.

Gorgeous birds.

So the weird dreams I had when I retired in 2012 involved getting called out to work for various things, or at least waking up thinking I had heard the work issued nextel chirp.
A couple of times I got dressed and when I couldn't find the chirper I realized it had been a dream :gig
One time I had dreamed my boss saying he would figure out how to pay me:gig

Oh wow lol

All my indoor pets are males. The only cat that ever sprayed in my house was a female and my old pit/lab used to spite piss on the floor. Never had my boys behave like that.

Yeah, none of our males ever have either and I personally like male dogs better lol

Gorgeous birds. Not often that the hens are prettier than the roo, but she's a looker.

X2

That's the worst thing you've ever said.

Lol

x2. If the dog gets on my bed, I'll kick her in the ribs rather than relinquishing my space. :p

Hey!

I imagine you'd bite her too!

Ew, dog hair. Nope.

Good point. Maybe just a snarl, then?

I usually growl sleepily at her and push her off, lol. Then she goes to sleep on the couch.

:lau meanie!

I posted her previously in this thread as the Super Duper Automatic Incubator.

Unfortunately she is the one that the raccoon got last fall.

Beautiful bird! Sorry for your loss!

That's really too bad. She was a really nice looking bird. Did she hatch the poult or adopt it?

X2

I got mine from Stromberg's and I really liked them. No matter what rooster I bred her to, it improved the meat factor and blockiness of the offspring.

I will need to keep this in mind so i can eventually order some lol

X2

Hey, no dog of mine is going to disturb my beauty sleep.

Just teach her “off” lol

Thank goodness! I imagine you are a might grumpy when you don't get your beauty sleep too.

:D

Like a mother bear. Only worse.

:lau

She would hatch any kind of egg but I never allowed her to raise any of them. Guinea eggs can normally hatch anywhere from 26 to 28 days. She hatched every guinea egg she was given on day 26. Her daughter who was not quite a stubborn broody as she would hatch every guinea egg she was given on day 28. I believe the difference was that the daughter would spend more time off of the nest than she did.

They sound awesome.

Looking at the poll, how do you keep cats OFF the furniture. Especially, the kitchen table and other food preparation surfaces?
:sick

I got real good at terrorizing them so they wouldn't come near me. While I was at work, the cats would play. I'd find evidence and they'd join the witness protection program.

I haven’t had much luck with that lol

You can do like I do here. No cats are allowed in the house.

If I wasn’t so attached to Luna I would kick her outside. She is not the best with the litter box

you don't, they are after the mice
:lau
or
sheets of tinfoil of course

supposed to really work, the supposedly don't like walking on tinfoil

Huh may have to try that but seems like a waste of tinfoil lol

Interesting story that. I lost. And remind them frequently. We are a cat free house now.

Aww why

Apparently my cat didn’t get that memo

Lol

They kept checking and I was the only one to put it back. A whole lot of trouble. Easier to get rid of the cats.

:( meanie lol jkkk

soooooooooo what about the mice?

CHICKENS!!!

Mine dont eat them lol

You get particularly lazy and/or clumsy cats. My old dude sucks at jumping and prefers laying on the dog beds with the dogs. The other one likes sitting on the dining room chairs. He's been terrorized out of the kitchen many times (spray bottles work nicely) and is pretty good about not getting on the counter.
The dogs are also not allowed in the kitchen. Then again, they're pretty much not allowed anywhere but their beds.

:lau i need some lazy cats

And meanie :p jk, i used to make Gator lay outside the kitchen too when we ate but then i stopped when he got older as long as he was laying on the rug across the counter or somewhere else away from me. We did let him on the couch but only some. Next dog i will let on the couch too and probably bed too or maybe only bed when i allow it. Maybe crate at night. I like big dogs and they take up too much room on the bed lol but i could never not have them on the couch. I need my dog snuggles lol

@Pugsabi have you considered piracy? I mean quail. Have you considered quail?

:lau

What mice?

IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO HOUSE OR BASEMENT CHICKENS
no I would much rather have cats

Lol ew to chickens in house

The ones I scoop up off my kitchen counter.. and I hear in the pantry and spare bedroom

Ewwww

Currently there are no known mice in my house.

That’s good!

Make a chicken moat around the house. Stock it with feral chickens that you only feed raw meat on Mondays.

Good idea

That might work :)

Lol true
