➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

The dog saga continues.
Turns out Theia likes Triumph a little TOO much.. my old man either has a pinched nerve or a slipped disc or something of the sort. :( He’s had an on and off limp in his front leg for over a year now, but we’ve kept it under control with food supplements.
Yesterday after a rough play match with Theia he had this episode where he couldn’t lift his neck and his front legs gave out. Scared me to death. He’s going back to my parent’s this week for bed rest with strict instructions of no tug of war, no walking on a leash, no jumping off beds, etc. Theia’s just a little too much for him.
His back is very sore but it’s not slowing him down. He’ll be seeing a vet soon, I have a feeling they’re going to put him on long term anti-inflamatories and/or steroids.

I’m not a particularly emotional person, but thinking about my bubby boy getting into this stage in his life really tears me up inside.. I know how this goes, and I know this is the first step in their decline. I’m just not ready. :(

Awww, poor guy! I don't think it is something that we can ever truly be ready for. All we can do is cherish the time we have and try to be grateful and thankful for what our beloved pets bring to and enrich our lives. I'm sry Tes :hugs

We closed off the little coop yesterday in the hopes that Priscilla would mosey on over to the big coop to lay her egg. I got no egg from her yesterday. In fact, I only got 3 eggs total. Yesterday was cloudy, gloomy, rainy and cold. Pfft! Most of the girls took the day off. So I figure, ok, it wouldn't surprise me if we had an egg from her inside the little coop when we let them out this morn. Nope. Ok, closed off the little coop again. I've already got 4 eggs so far this morn. The girls are making up for yesterday. Well, I see Priscilla checking out the little coop. I go and grab her and take her in the big coop. I force her in one of the nest boxes. It was a top box because the other 3 were taken. She scratches around a bit which I thought was a good sign. She comes out. :barnie Well, one of the girls that's in a bottom box finishes up so I put Priscilla in that one. She scratches around a bit. Comes out. :he I say to myself, well I showed her 2 boxes so hopefully when she really HAS to lay, she will make her way back over. I'm watching her on our camera and bless her little heart. She wants up in the little coop so bad. She keeps jumping up on the ramp and keeps finding the door closed every single time. Then she'll come out, go back in, and try it at a different angle like that will make a difference. But she keeps trying and trying and trying. Should I go grab her again and try again or let her figure it out?

Did you buy anything cool from the mall?

Not really, got a few hats and some pants but that’s really it lol I wanted to go in some of the gift shops and get something Minnesota or Mall of America y like a sweatshirt or shirt or something but then I didn’t. But we did have fun.

Elvis is “dust bathing” in the shavings of a nest box  :gig

Ok. Update on Priscilla. I did go out there but I didn't grab her or anything. I watched her for a few minutes. She's normally very quiet. She was being not so quiet at this point. She's was annoyed lol. Well, I walked over to the big coop and called her. Trying to cluck and coo, telling her to come over here. She came over and immediately jumped up the ramp into the big coop. I was like :yesss: So I wait for a few seconds to see if she comes back out. I peek in the window. She's in a nest box. :woot So I leave and go back in the house and look on our camera (we have one inside the coop now). She's circling and circling. Pecks at the shavings. Circles and circles. Comes out. :barnie Tries a different box. Same thing. She leaves coop and no egg. :he She does this again in a little bit. She goes in a 3rd time but is finally settling down. :fl Finally! She did it! :celebrate 3rd times the charm I guess. I go collect and I open back up the little coop. I'll keep closing off the little coop in the mornings and wait to open it back up until she lays her egg and is in the habit of laying in the big coop. It may take a few days. She's a stubborn little thing!
Oh, and about those duck eggs. I think I jumped the gun on that one. I now think that it wasn't a Xena egg and was just a Luna egg and the egg I found in the chicken area was a Luna egg that I didn't know about. :( That the chickens might have discovered it buried in there and kicked it out. I found Luna in the dog house again this morning. She had just laid her egg and was trying to scoop the shavings with her bill to start burying it. She got spooked by a chicken and bolted out of there before she finished. I'm thinking of moving the dog house in the duck area. Maybe Luna would like that better. Who knows, maybe Xena would like it as well. I'll still keep my eyes out for Xena eggs.

Let her figure it out. She may do so or she’ll be an idiot like our Australorp pullet who just laid it on the ground since she couldn’t get in and refused to go in the coop.

That can be really hard on you. You get so attached to the puppies that it really hurts when you have to give them up.

Yeah, I’ve been reading about that and I do think it would be really hard but idk, I also feel like I would like knowing I was helping somebody. Idk.
