➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

One of these days. This year is the year of the duckling. Oh, and baby goats. They come home in a couple of weeks. We picked out another doeling for a total of three. Two doelings and a wether.
Me too!!
Haven't found the goats yet. Found some cayugas from the woman i bought my incubator from. Also going to try balutties.

Sigh. I already have a broody. I also just broke two a couple weeks ago. Bantam Cochins are nutso.
My bantam cochin was the only one of my bantams that didn't go broody last year. The other 3 insisted on brooding together in the same box. Silly girls only managed to hatch 1 chick. They made a great team of mothers.

Everything is flooding so bad. It's awful for some of the low lying areas and those that are more prone to flooding. I am so thankful that even though I have a creek running through my front yard that I am on higher ground. The yard is beyond ridiculous! There is so much pooling water. But pooling water is not flooding, so I'm grateful. I am just sooo over the rain. We desperately need to dry out. :hit My poor chickens look bedraggled and are pitiful. Other than that they don't seem to mind too much. In the lighter moments of rain they love to forage around in the water and mud looking for any worms and/or bugs that are coming to the surface. My ducks are going crazy noodling around in the mud. I've noticed something about Annabelle. She doesn't care for the pool/water like the others. They love to chill and nap on the water. She stands next to the pool next to them but won't get in the water. They love to splash and bathe. She'd rather be foraging and often is. Noah has resorted to trying to mate with her in the yard instead of the pool. I just don't get her. It's weird to me.

No idea.
Thinking rescue. I looooove goat cheese, but don't know if I want the milking hassle.
I looked into the rescue thing, but I have the same issue with it as I do dog "rescues". Crazy people wanting to come and look at your property, assess your area, multiple home checks, not allowed to breed the goats, etc.
If you are not wanting to milk, it could be a solid option for you, though!

That’s crazy!! For dogs I can kind of understand since they want to make sure you have a safe/secure house and yard/place and the dog isn’t going to get loose or be used as a breeding machine or left outside or abused or whatever but for goats that is ridiculous.... they are farm animals lol granted, they obviously still need shelter but I bet those people would want a massive full sized horse quality barn and a little run in shed or dog house igloo shelters would be unacceptable LOL and not allowed to breed!? What the heck!? What good are the females then? Most people get female goats specifically for breeding. If they don’t want to breed, they get males. So I don’t see why they would limit it. Especially since it’s not like it hurts the goats or like they have a million babies. Intact dogs and cats can have a million babies so I can see why they’d want them fixed but most people just breed goats for milk/production and the babies are super cute and easy to find homes for... so that’s just ridiculous lol probably crazy, overly emotional/sensitive people who think it is somehow mean or abusive or something to “make” an animal have babies lol
