➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I had a pet crow many years ago. I wouldn't mind having one now but here it is illegal to have a crow but one can get a permit to have a raven (Federal permit also required).
Please tell me that you have an old photo somewhere. I'd love to see a pet crow. They're such cool birds.

Ditto. I don't make a hobby out of the wild birds, but I love seeing them at the feeder and hearing their calls. What I really want is a pet crow. If only it weren't illegal.

I totally read this as "pet cow". And I was confused because I didn't know WHY a pet cow would be illegal except that you just weren't zoned for them maybe. And then I was about to upload an adorable cute baby cow pic because, why not? But I was behind and I wanted to catch up. I was skimming along through the conversation. Not quite following along because I knew something just wasn't quite right but my poor tired brain hadn't figured it out yet. Then I got to this point below...

And then I was like.. what the heck?!? So I went and reread up until that point again. I think it's about time for bed for me. :barnie But on the correct subject of crows... I love the crows around here. Ever since I saw them harass and chase off the hawks. I need to put up feeders but omgosh do they go through some bird seed! I had 2 feeders out and I couldn't keep them full.
I can't believe I read cow...:smackHere's a cow pic anyway :gig

:gig Nope, I'd love a Jersey heifer or two but my land isn't very good pasture so I stick with goats and chickens and ducks and a few other assorted things.

I just love all animals!! LOL but dogs and indoor pets are more involved and potentially annoying. They need walks and training and lots of attention. Livestock are a lot more self sufficient lol so I get it. Maybe you need a cat or more independent dog. :lau

I love birds too

Mine was useless against hawks  but worth his weight in gold for coyotes, foxes, raccoons, etc. and in his defense, I don’t think he saw or heard hawks and he was a house pet, not outside 24/7, so not much he could do against them. Maybe if he was outside when hawks attacked, he would have protected them from them.

We had a neighbors dog come over a lot and get one once but she was fine with no injuries or minimal and then I think they figured out how to contain the dog better because he hasn’t been over in a long time.

I want parakeets or cockatiels but indoor birds are so loud and messy lol I am not really an indoor pets kind of gal. More so livestock similar to you except the only difference is I love dogs and cats. So I guess I should say I am not a CAGED indoor pet person. Although I HATE cat litter boxes and am technically allergic to cats so future cats might have to short haired barn cats although I love Luna and she is not going anywhere.

Be careful when it comes to some indoor or exotic type birds. A lot of them have LONG life spans. Like for example, a Macaw I think lives like 80yrs. I don't know about parakeets and/or cockatiels. I'm just saying that make sure you are in it for the long haul is all. Some birds are so smart and can be trained with positivity/treat training. They're awesome!

Btwh

Yeah, that’s part of why I don’t want a bigger bird. I would love an African Gray or an Amazon or Conure or something they’re so smart and need so much work and live soooo long. It’s literally like having a two year old for life lol so I’m like yeah no. But they are really cool and can learn tons of cool things!!! I think parakeets are slightly shorter lifespan, like maybe only 15??? Like a dog so better for me I think.
