➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

They both sound like awesome dogs! But yeah, they definitely need a strong/alpha handler. Which he definitely is and is good with dogs and has them trained really well but yeah.

I think maybe the male is just more aloof with strangers? And I haven’t really been around him very much whereas the other I was around more.

Yeah, I think maybe their old dog was just more of the affectionate to everybody type? Maybe because she was female? Or just her personality? Or she maybe liked me. Whereas I think the current one is more reserved with strangers and protective. Maybe because he’s male. Idk.

Surprisingly female Ridgies are better problem solvers than the males. The males can be aloof also...depends on the bloodline and how they are socialized as pups.
We don't allow rude behaviors. No jumping, bumping or licking. The crotch sniff seems to be a standard RR behavior. :he Both girls are getting better about this....it has taken great effort to stop it.
Once you are recognized as family, both males and females will pretend to ignore you until you make the first effort to engage, then game on.
Ruby will stand by someone's side waiting for a back scratch or pat and then greet the person. If you ignore her, she will walk away and ignore you the rest of the visit.
Lily will greet face to face and any one who pets her finds her close enough to touch. She will often sit on you foot to be close.
Both girls stand guard and make great arm rests.

Oh yeah, to be clear, I don’t tolerate that type of behavior with me!! Like if I got one, they would never be allowed to jump up or plow into me like that. I train it out/discourage it. But it’s just they have a much more physical play style with other dogs than some breeds. Some of it is definitely their nature but I think they can be trained to not be physical and crazy. ... Never tried to train it out with dogs.

Big breeds do have a serious need for training in human etiquette! It must be diligent and consistent. Our girls learned very quickly and look to see if they are being watched being good.
When they play it sounds like roaring. And run...my gosh! Their endurance and stamina is boundless.
RRs are both scent and sight hounds. When they are working they are tireless. They don't fetch. You threw it, you go get it....I'm not wasting my time getting that for you just so you can throw it again.

Besides the RR, I've had Chihuahua, Basset Hounds, Dachund, poodles, Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd, Lab and Catahoula. Loved them all. The RR are definitely more challenging.

I should note not just from that. I also did a lot outside today too and it’s pretty late here. But it’s just there were a lot to go through lol

Where?

Please tell me you skipped the dessert.

Five Guys again. With my dad this time.

Guess which one is mine?

Oh no. Apparently the boy’s family was involved in dogs and dog shows and I think they breed and train German Shorthaired Pointers so I guess he does know his way around dogs after all so it almost makes it worse that he’s probably grown up around dogs his whole life and this still happened. Could have happened to anyone I guess. :(

I think he somehow knew the owner and was helping out.

Also what makes it worse is my mom and I just went to Outback last night. I was good though, I just got the little steak medallions and veggies and saved half of it of the kabobs for today so for lunch I had that so was good but then we also got the free bread (and another loaf when we ran out  tiny loafs but still) and the Bloomin Onion of which 2 of us ate like over half of it and then my mom’s dinner came with a little cheesecake slice which was definitely smaller than the big one but definitely not little of which I ate the entire thing cause she didn’t want it

So it’s especially bad that I went out last night and was bad and then and again tonight

But I didn’t want steak since I had just had it last night so I axed making that, then he wanted PIZZA, but I axed that and got mad (not really but kinda faked) because I said I was trying to eat healthy, but he suggested it cause I said I didn’t want to go out to eat, which he also suggested. Yeah, well, ironically we ended up at Five Guys which is both eating out and unhealthy. But it was my idea and it is fast. I didn’t want to go to like a sit down place that was gonna take forever and I love Five Guys and he loves it too and hadn’t had it in forever so we decided to. We both are bad influences on each other lol bad, I know. Even a regular sit down restaurant would have been better. but I will say that everything was DELICIOUS and fresh tonight so it was sooo worth it haha

But so know, I know, NO MORE CHEATING. :lau

Anyhow, here is last nights dinner. I saved one kabob and like half the veggies and potatoes.

I am slowly trying to replace them with other trees especially Linden trees. When Wyoming declared them to be a noxious weed, they promised us that they would not go after our shelter belts. It was all a political rip off. One of the legislators had a buddy that wanted to start a business for removing the Russian Olive trees. The state couldn't pay him to rip out the perfectly good trees unless they were declared a noxious weed. They did some lying such as claiming that Russian Olives were a detriment to birds and other wildlife. I have not had any birds show up here that did not like the Russian Olive trees. The warblers love them as a wonderful place to ambush all the little flying insects that gather in them. Robins love the olives as do many other seed eaters. Deer love them for a place to hide out and they also eat the olives. The honeybees work them over when they are in bloom. My turkeys and chickens fatten up on the olives in the fall and winter.

Anyhow they declared them a noxious weed and the legislator's buddy got paid to rip them out on public property and replace them with types that won't grow here. Now that they have finished that program the state is using taxpayer money to print advertisements for him to take out the trees on private property at a cost to the property owner.
Not a noxious weed tree here. Used for birds and wildlife and state allows for shelterbelt areas. Would love to start some from seeds.

The power company came around with flyers about the emerald ash borer wanting us to consent to them removing "any ash trees close enough to the power lines to hit them if they tipped over from the roots". I had some questions.

The borers aren't even here in TN yet, the trees they'd be cutting would be perfectly healthy. I asked if he'd marked the trees he was talking about so I could see and he hadn't. It was winter so no leaves to help me ID, just sign here, please!

:rant

I told him that we will remove dead or dying trees that pose a risk to the lines when and if that happens.

I happened to be reminded of this and went looking today. They were talking about trees large enough to sell for timber. More than 20 healthy, mature trees. Someone is making a pile of money with these scare tactics.

Great job saving your trees and keeping those money mongers at bay!

Check the packed for year. Most seeds have a shelf life of three years max. Onions, only one.

That was the first thing I did lol well, while looking at what seeds they were :lau

But checked again when you said that and sorted by year instead of type like I did originally.

Most are 2017 and 2018 with some 2016s. Some of the 2016s though are the plastic/foil type hermetically sealed packets with moisture conditioned seeds so I wonder if those really sealed packets last longer than the normal paper ones??

And it’s funny looking at them too cause you can see what I wanted to grow that year lol last year I went crazy on lettuces, the 2017s I went crazy on herbs and tomatoes :lau and some other stuff mixed in like lots of squash, peppers, some cucumbers, melons, eggplant, etc.

But I already have tons of seeds I bought this year so idk if I am even going to grow any of it. Might just take some to our dump/transfer station and give some of it away. Or make a much bigger garden. LOL
