➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Quality more than quantity.

Not saying the trashy romance novels are bad, I'm just saying there are many options to choose from. I read some terrible literature in High School that scarred me for life.
We moved at the beginning of the summer when I was 11. I spent the entire summer in the library and read every Barbara Cartland novel written. She wrote regency romance so not really trashy but historically fairly accurate. When I went to London as an adult it was almost like I knew my way around. It was kinda fun.

These days I have a broader interest and read most everything. It is amazing what you can learn even reading fiction.

@Texas Kiki I think the packing peanuts that came with the ducks are sex links. I’ll have to grow them out to processing size. That is why I didn’t report the DOA and early death to Ideal. I don’t need any more packing peanuts!

I think the prettiest one with black markings is in the corner. Haven’t sexed it yet. I’m starting to hear crows and have seen one try to mate another. I did pick up that one to see if I could get foam and I could. Haven’t started getting eggs yet. I’ll spend some time out there every day and try to get them all sexed and banded. There are a few that are tiny that I will cull as I don’t want them to propagate either male or female.

Oh my gosh, that is awesome.
My MIL and I have been talking about setting up a woman-cave/mad scientist den this summer. We want to get our hands on some chemicals and try out diaphonization and maybe taxidermy. We both have garbage bags in our cars for picking up potential specimens from the side of the road... :gig
Be careful. Possession of raptors or their feathers is prohibited irregardless of how they met their demise. There are many other birds that fall into the same classification. Each state has their own regulations and there are also the Federal regulations.

Some states allow the picking up of road kill while others require a permit which may or may not be free.
Mad women of science unite! Your plan sounds awesome. There are plenty of items in professional labs (including mine) that come from roadkill. A scientist has to do what a scientist has to do :D
Professional Labs usually maintain a scientific specimen collection permit.

They sent chicken nuts! WhAt if one ordered ducks on purpose because they didn't want chickens? That is silly.

I really want Pearls now.

Thank you...whew. Daylight now....damage is mostly west and north of us. Neighbor lost a barn...several roofs are gone ...lots of trees. So far all neighbors are safe.
I put hand warmers in with hatching eggs.
Oh my.

@Wickedchicken6
Look at the quailies.
These are the ones you should start with.

Then you have to order enough for a "full box" I only ordered 5 ducks. 10 probably would have resulted in no packing peanuts. I think three additional girls should be enough for Street.

Did you have the option to choose the nuts?
Chicken vs duck.

No, if you only want 5 ducks they use male chicks as packing peanuts because they always have leftovers. I mean I could have bought a full box of ducks if I wanted sure, but I really didn't want to raise that many to the point where I can put them on the pond and become low maintenance. Dux are nasty things as Ralphie would say.
