➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

No, if you only want 5 ducks they use male chicks as packing peanuts because they always have leftovers. I mean I could have bought a full box of ducks if I wanted sure, but I really didn't want to raise that many to the point where I can put them on the pond and become low maintenance. Dux are nasty things as Ralphie would say.
I guess they figure that you can euthanize the free male chicks on arrival if you don't want to raise them?

Power came back on at 8:34 am!
Will check the eggs and incubators when temps are back up....only dropped to 75.
Hubby and his brother are out helping neighbors repair fences to keep livestock off roads and clearing drains in bar ditches for water to run off pastures and creeks.
I've put pot roasts in the oven and crock pots for the folks for lunch.
We are on a rise so we are draining nicely, but lower properties are flooding.

How did Lubbock and Abilene fare with this weather last night? Looked like they got it before the storms moved into Oklahoma.

Be careful. Possession of raptors or their feathers is prohibited irregardless of how they met their demise. There are many other birds that fall into the same classification. Each state has their own regulations and there are also the Federal regulations.

Some states allow the picking up of road kill while others require a permit which may or may not be free.

Professional Labs usually maintain a scientific specimen collection permit.
The college I worked for had gho mount. During the summer the professor took it to a local taxidermist to get it cleaned and repairs... Which turned out to be a fed sting operation. It was supposed to have paperwork, which no one knew where it was since it was decades old. He had to go to court and the college wouldn't help him in anyway. Big expensive mess for him.

I’m sure you probably chose ideal for a specific reason but I just checked and apparently Meyer ships ducks and geese from chicken chicks so they can’t be combined so you probably wouldn’t have gotten chicken packing peanuts there! Their minimum is only 3 too. But the shipping is crazy haha

Metzer Farms only has a minimum of 2 and they specialize in waterfowl and they didn’t even have chickens till a few years ago and even then it’s like meat types so they probably don’t include packing peanuts either. I don’t know what their shipping cost is though.

I think if I ever get ducks or any waterfowl I would order from Metzer as I figure it’s probably better quality than the big hatcheries but idk.

But there are other places to order from to avoid chicken packing peanuts but of course then some of them the shipping is insane so it depends haha

Similar here, a high school teacher had a legal Golden Eagle mount but gave it away once the laws were changed. I don't know if he had the supporting paperwork but no one that had the eagle after that point had supporting paperwork. Fortunately none of them were ever caught in possession of the eagle.

That's terrible.

And this is really unfortunate. Neither of the instances above should be happening.

The kids found an owl feather by the air conditioner and they still have it. That's probably a no-no as well even though the owl dropped the feather there and presumably doesn't miss it
Yes, dropped feathers are not excluded because the Feds don't want to open a loophole. I used to have Golden Eagles shed their feathers while sitting on my windmill. It was and is illegal to pick the feathers up and keep them. Even the Native Americans, who can legally have the eagle feathers, must be on the "rolls" and have paperwork to show the legality of their feathers.

We are safe. Tornado went over house about 5am....took out williw by back of house. Electric is off. Too dark to assess more damage yet.
Will check in later.
Oh my goodness. Prayers to you. :hugs

Thank you...whew. Daylight now....damage is mostly west and north of us. Neighbor lost a barn...several roofs are gone ...lots of trees. So far all neighbors are safe.
I put hand warmers in with hatching eggs.
I’m so sorry. :hugs At least the neighbors are safe that you know of.

Thank goodness the power came back quickly! I’m not sure how Lubbock and Abilene are, but last I heard Abilene got an EF2 last Saturday. Thankfully we just got rain here.
