➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

We buried her. She is with some of our other beloved pets that were gone too soon as well. I'm sad but relieved. I so wish I could have saved her but I know we truly did all that we could have. I'm also glad that she is no longer suffering. We surprised ourselves with how strong we truly were in regards to taking care of her. I appreciate all of you. Thank you all for the condolences and thoughtfulness. :hugs:hugs:hugs

Did the vet happen to test any of the fluid?
No. He said that he would have had to "send it off". Which of course would cost more $$$. Just that he was pretty sure it was Peritonitis or some other word that I can't remember. He looked at it under a microscope and all it showed was that she had evidence of an infection.

Both. It literally looked and was thick like a light gravy. Like chicken or turkey gravy. And it had ZERO smell. It didn't smell foul or like eggs or infection. It didn't have any smell at all. Even the vet thought it was weird when he drained her that first time.
That’s so strange. I wonder if she had perforated her intestines? Or maybe some kind of internal bleeding?
You’re a good owner, Critter. :hugs

Poor guy.
He is lucky.
He has a nice soft padded fake cone head.

I’m sure it’s probably just the drugs or something but it sure looks like he knows when you see the difference between those two clips. :lau

And yeah, FSIL just went and bought that the other day ha

He will be ok. :hugs

Thanks! I’m sure he will be but I still feel bad lol even though he’s technically DB&FSIL’s ha and I probably would have waited a little longer but I think the rescue kept emailing cause I think he was supposed to be neutered like months ago so they kinda had to so yeah ha and I’m sure he’s just drugged up and tired but it sure looks like he knows. :lau I just hope it doesn’t change his personality at all. He’s so happy go lucky, sweet, friendly, and goofy, and obedient now. I hope he doesn’t get like depressed or something and lose his happy, bouncy, goofy energy haha that’s his best part. :love :hit

I knew my chicken knowledge would come in handy one day. :lau

Actually, I’ll screenshot the pictures so you don’t have to leave BYC lol took me a while to find the chickens in the first one. Also I gotta find out more context like why there are random chickens in the middle of the city. :lau but I found this post funny ha if not mostly cause I always find it entertaining when people who aren’t used to chickens are so amazed by seeing them. :lau

Well, I just lost my first chicken. My precious Purple died. :hit We had been reading and reading. My DH found multiple stories where some people were able to either stabilize or at the very least make the chicken comfortable to where it could live out whatever life it had left. Never a cure, unless you spayed. Then you had a chance but seriously, who is going to go through that for a chicken? We knew it would end up this way. She was only 1yr old. We were just hoping to have her a little bit longer. So we drained her ourselves. It was always different colored than what you see them drain out in reference to Ascites. Her drainage always looked like gravy. Gross I know, but is true. We gave her spa soaks. Tried penicillin. Yesterday she was outside enjoying being a chicken. Walking around and pecking and foraging. As the night went on she just declined. This morning she was pretty listless and wouldn't eat or drink. Just wanted to sleep. I was with her when she died. DH is at work. I asked my DH if he wanted me to take her to the Kord Institute, which is Nashville's Institute of Veterinary Medicine and have them do a necropsy on her. He said no. We pretty much know what was wrong with her and it was her alone. Reproductive issues. Nothing contagious. He would like to bury her. I think it being our first loss, for him, he needs it to be this way. I'm ok with it. This just totally bummed out my good mood. I am going to go outside and love on my other chickens for a bit. :hit
So sorry to hear about Purple :hugs. You and hubby did all you could for her. A pet burial is a nice memorial.
