➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I’m just messing with you.
I’ve had a million and one tests on my brain. I’m done. At this point, I’m just content to be a functioning adult and not bedridden (most of the time).

Ah okay. I wasn’t sure. Can be hard to tell on the internet haha and I was probably acting like a bit of a know it all

Sorry. sure you already knew all that.

And oh wow that definitely sounds annoying and I can see why you’d be done. Makes sense. And yeah, that’s a good point there. But still must suck sometimes not knowing or whatever

@aart Has some good jail pictures.

My experience goes about like this: After her setting for 3 days and nights in the nest (or as soon as I know they are broody), I put her in a wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller wire on the bottom but no bedding, set up on a couple of 4x4's right in the coop or run with feed and water.

I used to let them out a couple times a day, but now just once a day in the evening(you don't have to) and she would go out into the run, drop a huge turd, race around running, take a vigorous dust bath then head back to the nest... at which point I put her back in the crate. Each time her outings would lengthen a bit, eating, drinking and scratching more and on the 3rd afternoon she stayed out of the nest and went to roost that evening...event over, back to normal tho she didn't lay for another week or two. Or take her out of crate daily very near roosting time(30-60 mins) if she goes to roost great, if she goes to nest put her back in crate.

Chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor after pic was taken.

Did you see this?! A kid permanently blind from a crap diet. His first symptom was fatigue, he was taken to the doctor, and his doctor's advice about nutrition was ignored.

My kids went to primary school with a boy who may end up just like this. The last we saw him, he existed on peanut butter and Little Debbie Nutty Buddies. Not exaggerating, there was a pizza party at school and he brought his own "lunch" so he could have this crap instead. It's all he ever brought. He drank caffeinated soda, never milk or water. Zero real food. He sat at my kids' lunch table, they told me all about it but it wasn't until the party that I saw it for myself.

His teeth were a disaster, caps and fillings even in the front. I doubt he ever brushed.

And he missed a lot of school. He suffered from frequent "stomach pain" (with no fiber, this is not surprising!) and headaches.

Oh wow poor kid!! And that poor their kid too!! I can understand picky eaters to a point but at some point you gotta force them to eat some vegetables or get creative and hide them in other foods. Or at the very least, give them some vitamins. These kids parents never made them take any vitamins at all? I used to down those Flintstones gummy vitamins like candy. Even picky eaters should like those haha

His mom was at the party. Her teeth were terrible, too. I didn't ask if he takes vitamins. Even vitamins can only do so much.

She said he'd had multiple surgeries to correct a cleft palate and while he was always picky, he wouldn't want to eat post-op. So, she'd let him eat whatever he would. And eventually, he wouldn't eat anything else. I wasn't quite sure what to say. I mean, she knew it was bad but she wasn't willing to fight him on it. So, what do you do when a parent refuses to parent? He was 10, there were plenty of dependent years left to fix it, but she'd surrendered control to the child.

That is just awful :(

Thank you Aart. I appreciate it.

Went to sleep with iPad in my lap last night. Woke up at 2 am, got caught up and promptly went to bed.

Finally seeing a little much needed recovery in our one eyed bull! Bomber wasn't getting up to walk much, nor was he eating or drinking much.
Hubby thinks he may have cracked a rib or injured his back when he got stuck in the vet's squeeze chute and then had a hard roll when they opened the side gate as he was rousing out of his surgery anesthesia. He walks with a slight limp in his hack left leg and is stiff on the other three legs.He hangs his head when he is standing so we know he is hurting.
A 2000 pound bull can't be moved unless he wants to go.
Bomber is a registered Angus, gentle, easy going boy and has allowed Hubby to give him his penicillin injections while settled on the ground.
Gave him a B complex shot and some Bovine Nutradrench yesterday and more B complex this morning.
Finally yesterday evening Bomber started eating a few cubes and nibbling some hay and alfalfa when we set it down in front of him where he lies on the ground. Same with fresh cold water. Surgery was 6 days ago!
A healthy bull can drink 15 gallons or more of water a day. Bomber would walk to the water trough and then go lie down in the shade...without eating much of anything.
Vet clinic was closed over the Labor Day weekend, so called this morning to get him some Dexamethisone. Gave him 10cc and then 5cc each day until we see improvement.

Vet told us that because of the eye cancer scare in Oklahoma, even though Bomber's eye was removed because of injury, no market would accept him for the sale ring.
So when Bomber reaches his sale age as a breed bull, we will have to have him butchered privately and made into hamburger....that or let him live out his days and bury him on the ranch.
Hubby said we will still get 2 eyed calves out of him until that happens.
