The cream Brabanters are awesome. Such cool birds. Amazing foragers, friendly, beautiful, and one of them squatted the other day for the first time. Hope that means the eggs are soon to follow. They are an absolute winner to me. I doubt I will bother with any other breed of standard chickens for some time.

Cricket is a street rat. He's a sweet little thing, but he has his issues. Rescue dogs are a lot of work, and I'm pretty over the whole thing. If I bother getting another dog in the future, I will likely go through a breeder or get a smaller old dog from the pound.

How are those kitchen cabinets coming? Wishing you had left them that pretty gray color yet?

Yep. Super hard work. Years of it. Sometimes the dogs never get to "normal" status, as though there is such a thing with dogs, but you know what I mean. It's really, really frustrating having a dog that will never truly trust that you have its best interest at heart. In the case of the street rat, I think he was just on his own for too long. I keep hoping that he'll turn that corner eventually, but am also resigned to the likeliness of that never actually happening.

Bless those souls that have the compassion, patience, and interest in helping, but I know that I'll never take a real rescue dog (like, off the streets rescue, not a pound hound) ever again. Dogs are cool, I love my dogs, but I guess I'm just not a true dog person.

Ain't that the truth. Out of all the off-the-streets adult rescues I've fostered, I didn't find a single one that wasn't absolutely psychotic. I mean, I was glad to give them a place to crash until they found a good place to live, but I NEVER struggled with wanting to foster fail. The dog we ultimately ended up getting was an owner surrender (I think) as a young puppy.
