➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Thank you for telling me all that...

I usually use the pressure cooker, air fryer, or the cast iron skillet. When I use the cast iron skillet I sear it and then I put it in the oven for a few minutes until it's done.
Pressure cooker is moist cooking - no skin.
Air fryer sounds dry, so maybe skin.
Cast iron skillet and oven can dry things out. May want the skin.

My sister likes boneless, skinless, flavorless chicken breast. Her stuff is dry cardboard to me. I add fats to mine.

For the cast iron skillet, I will sear a pig steak and then add water or broth and slow cook on the stove top for a moist cook. The steak will be falling apart after 6 hours of slow heat. Everyone has different tastes and styles. Serve over rice or potatoes.

I need to get another smoker. Smoked meat flavor is so rich.

I do remember when my aunt cooked turkey for Thanksgiving and it was so dry the gravy rannout fast

We are thinking about buying a smoker that you hook to propane, DH doesn't want a smoker that is electric.

I'm also going to make ground chicken, but I have to find a good grinder.

I also am leaving the bone in the breast and all the cuts that I make so that might make a difference too with the juiciness. I don't like the M word, it makes me cringe for some reason.

I also heard something crazy, it might not be crazy though to others...

A guy that has been raising meat chickens for several years (30+) was talking to my husband and told him that the last two weeks before he butchers his chickens, he gives them a cat food. He gives them dry cat food.

Does anyone else do this?

He said that he fed chicken feed until the end and he said the meat wasn't as juicy as it is when he feeds cat food the last two weeks.

He learned it from his family because they had been butchering chickens since before he was even born. when he moved out on his own he decided that he would just feed chicken feed and he realized that it wasn't the same. Either he's crazy or he's smart, I don't know.

I use wood fired smokers. Electric is the same as propane to me. Tastes different. I'm trying to save money and buying wood doesn't make sense when I have a yard full.

Anyone know if you must use charcoal for the kamada (big green eggs type) wood ovens? My last smoker was just a metal box and I used a lot of wood. Wanted to insulate it. The controls then become more important and it looks like someone has already solved my issues. Just don't like the pricing.

Cat food has more protein. Animal protein feed will give a different flavor than corn or acorns. No, haven't heard this. Sounds like a way to add fat fast. Corn is high carbohydrate and also adds fats fast. Depending on the dry cat food, it's probably corn or soy based.

If you try this, fish based cat food may give you fishy chicken. :sick

I was thinking of using chicken flavored dry cat food. I'm not eating it so it if tastes weird, DH will tell me.

Would buying corn be better to do?

I'm not even sure what I should be feeding them right now they are getting grower feed right now.

He wants the propane because if we lose electricity he still wants to be able to cook. Same reason why we have our big grill. We usually lose power during the end of summer to fall from bad storms or tornadoes.

Molting looks so rough. Poor Priscilla is almost looking like a Naked Neck instead of an Orpington. :gig
