➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I posted this question elsewhere but want to ask you folks too. Now forgive me for asking such a lame question but, at what age do y'all think I will be able to spot any oops cockerels in my pullet order? These are all new breeds to me so I don't know how fast they mature. I have bantam brahmas, bantam cochins, and ameraucanas. I will probably need to sell off a few birds at some point since 14 is a lot for my space (and 2 more than I actually ordered). But I want to ID the boys first...

The ones with redder combs is the only way I can tell with my bantam chicks. They usually develop faster than the females.

Mine are 3 months and I can now just spot the different 🤦🏼‍♀️ it's ridiculous. Bantams are a different chicken to me with growth and everything.

Depending on the breed and how well you observe both behavior and physical traits it can be as early as a few days or as late as 3 months. Single comb cockerels can often be spotted by three weeks based on comb growth.

That's what I am afraid of! :barnie I appreciate the response though. Thanks! And who knows, maybe they will make it easy on my and start crowing super early or something lol. I think little Hansel's comb is already starting to pop and he is only 3 weeks old.

Mine took 3 months to be able to tell. Bantams are so odd for growth.

Thanks! That gives me some hope for the cochins at least.

Mine haven't even crowed yet 🤦🏼‍♀️ bantams are silly. I don't even know how to tell if my silkie is male or female. I think it's female.

I think I have two cockerels out of the 7 I got at TSC.

Oh geez, silkies seem impossible to me. Were the TSC chicks straight run? If so, then 2 out of 7 is pretty good!

I bought all sexed-as-female chicks from Cackle. But the accuracy guarantee for bantams and ameraucanas is only 80% so I expect a few boys. Hansel seems pretty obvious but I am curious to see if there are other males hiding in the group.

Yeah they were TSC straight run bantams. The silkie I don't think should've been in there but it was.

When I ordered my black jersey giants I ordered 2 pullets. Both were Cockerels 😂 I have bad luck with getting sexed chickens.
