That is where the observation part comes in. There are behavior patterns that will tell on them faster than physical traits will.Mine took 3 months to be able to tell. Bantams are so odd for growth.

Anything in particular that I should be looking out for? That is where the observation part comes in. There are behavior patterns that will tell on them faster than physical traits will.
I'm wondering the same thingAnything in particular that I should be looking out for?![]()
Cindy, my buff is currently sitting on her nest. She is under a year old. None of her clutch is fertile, which, from what I understand, is very common for the first couple years. I have buff goslings lined up for her in a week, which is just about right with what would have been her hatch date.
My gander was very excited to meet Butters, the call duckling. He was so gentle and sweet with her. He did seem interested in stealing her from me.
My bantam cochins feather out differently by gender. My pullets feathered fairly evenly, and my cockerels feathered out wings and tails first. Their backs took forever to come in. Those are just my observations with my own little group, though it was dead on every time. Thanks! That gives me some hope for the cochins at least.
I can't wait to see your hatchlings!I didn't think mine would be fertile, but the ones I put in the incubator (after seeing a single target) are ALL fertile and developing well at the moment.
After I robbed the nest and returned two fake chicken eggs in their place, I went back to find a goose sitting on it, having kicked out two more goose eggs I apparently didn't dig deep enough to find.No idea why she expelled them. I put them in with the rest. the bator is officially as full as a tick.
Maybe I'll leave them all in there until lock-down and then move the new eggs over. Here I am assuming they'll start when most likely they won't...
No! Please share.Did you ever read my gosling stealing story?
Standing erect and chest bumping. I was told that pullets will scratch around at the food dish while cockerels just go straight to eating. I can't verify this as a positive but what little time I spent watching, it may have some merit. I am sure there are some other things that I have forgotten since I haven't spent much observation time lately.Anything in particular that I should be looking out for?![]()
