I think one should be allowed to make their own decision on what animals they keep as pets or raise for food.
I am not a fan of anyone making rules/laws about this.
To each their own.


The only part about auctions in general (and I can only speak for the type of auctions in my area) I don't like is people selling sick animals and down here it seems that is what gets brought to auctions...the animals people no longer want because they are sick.

Unfortunately there is someone who is notorious for bringing animals that seem/are sick to the auction there. They're a regular there, they're the one who brought the emu chicks that time. Last time they brought a huge pig, you could see how swollen his front leg was, and he didn't want to put weight on it. They literally pushed him down the hall to the auction floor, pig screaming the whole way trying to lay down so it didn't have to walk. I think it sold for $20 - a 600+lb pig.. Same person also brought the camel last time, and he didn't seem all that healthy for a supposedly 17 year old camel.

The exotic one is pretty interesting. I definitely can't afford a lot of the animals they have (the baby wallaby was soooo cuteeeee - sold for $2800 I think). I like to go just to see what they have, and sometimes sell a few things. We didn't have anything ready last time, they do it every 2-3 months I think. You can make a lot more selling "simple" things, like rabbits and birds, at the exotic one because of such a large turnout. Even some eggs get up there in price at those. Other regular auctions, you can buy 18 fertile eggs for $1-2, ducks for $3-5, roosters for a couple dollars, and even pairs/trios of birds for $5-10. But like Kiki said, there is also the risk you take at them too on what you get.

I got our little bottle-fed lamb at a regular auction we sold some rabbits, & mini potbelly pigs for someone at. I saw the lady carrying her around, then they sat in front of me when the auction started lol. Bidding war between me and another girl went on for a few minutes. If she'd just bid 1 more time, little lamb would have been hers Glad she didn't though, and now we have a pair of Katahdins - bought the male from the friend who incubates for us sometimes.

Those kind of people are what bother me.

I know you understand how I couldn't resist!!

The lady was giving her up because it was a birthday gift from her husband, but she already had 4 small children (all with them at the auction), and she couldn't handle bottle feeding a 3 week old lamb also. She is a trip when she dances and jumps and has the zooms - and has the cutest "baaah". Her boyfriend on the other hand sounds like one of those screaming goats

Almost forgot, we had to say goodbye to our little "CrossBeak" yesterday. She was doing pretty well for awhile, but knew her time would probably come early on. She kept up adapting to eat and drink for awhile, but could tell yesterday she was going downhill and her QOL was no longer good (no longer active with the other chicks, or trying to eat/drink), so we let her go join the big coop in the sky.

People sell sick birds!
I see it happen all the time. They are idiots.

The other thing is, your birds may be perfectly fine on your soil, but get sick on mine, and my birds may be fine on mine, but get sick on yours. One of the many reasons I prefer hatching eggs.

Hopefully traffic isn't terrible (usually takes close to an hour to get home in the evenings), take care of the animal watering, feed the Shepherds and check all the birds, then Outback for the fiance's birthday with his mom.
