➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I cooked two.
I ended up throwing the rest away after I found them in the back of the fridge a few weeks later.

I am going to go tomorrow morning and (peek at the duck eggs) buy some quail eggs just to see if they are fertile/will develop.
What why would you throw them away? Dont they last for months in the fridge like chicken eggs?

Did you float test them before you tossed them? They can last quite a while, if they don't float or are barely float they might still be ok to eat. Definitely do a sniff test first though.
:sick
No I did not test them.
I didn't even think to.

Someone from TN was saying 20 or so pages back that DH wanted to wait to get a roo until the girls were older. My cockerel would be about the same age. PM me if you would like a cockerel of the same age who is full blooded French Blue copper Marans and a nice bird who has not been handled too much. He is the cockerel in the picture. Didn't like or want to be picked up, but tolerated it without attempting to harm me. we could make plans to get him to you. I have not heard from the lady yet and really want him to get a great home, no matter what I have to do. He would be expensive if you had to buy him and I want to give him to a good home rather than send him to freezer camp. I also have FBCM cockerels, if that is more to your liking and I can PM pics so you can decide which you would like. Then your girls can grow up with their cockerel, rather than introduce them as adults and all the mess that brings.

Yeah, that was me. I'll talk to my hubby about it and let you know one way or another in pm. Thx so much for offering. I'll get back with you later.

Hey!
We all want to know what you decide too!

My eggs last a while.
I don't trust store bought anything to last a while.
I promise you chicken eggs from the store can last a long while before they go bad. I used to buy them in bulk.

I actually think there was an expiration date on the package.
I'll double check the packages at the store tomorrow.
Lol if you go by rjohns they should last past the expiration date

It's been 12 whole mins.
:barnie

I will have to go back later on if I have the energy to do so LOL I am back from my store run and taking care of a couple errands. I went to that feed and mill store and they couldn't help me about locating ducks. So on a whim I decided to swing by Tractor Supply and look on their community board and ask them. Turns out they are getting in "an assortment of ducks" the end of this month. :woot The woman told me that I need to know what I am looking for if I want a specific breed because they don't come marked and all she can identify are Rouens, Khaki Campbells and Mallards. So, I need to educate myself on duckling identifying. I've got 2 breeds in mind/preference and I already know that one of them would have to be thru a personal seller or hatchery and that is the Saxony. The other kind, Silver Appleyard, she told me that she believes they will be getting in so :fl. And it will give us time to convert our doghouse that we built, that none of our dogs like or use at all, into a duck house. Just needs a bit of tweaking and whatever other preparing that we need to do. Am kinda excited, not gonna lie. :celebrate
