Emus!! Loved @Pyxis Emu hatching thread. I pretty much lurked the entire time, but boy was that ever interesting.
No worries, but thank you. Too many condolences going around of late. Bums me out. I love my chickens, but they are just chickens. Though if I could have chosen the coyote breakfast, it would have been Stevie (my Welsummer). I just don't like her. She's a spazzed out idiot. Beautiful bird though and a great layer even though she is like four years old. Survived a dog attack, has spurs and is a huge girl. Meh, maybe she is kinda like my old red sex link, Plain Jane I used to have. Just a nasty thing, but I kinda liked her "fowl" spirit. Ugh. I'm so lame.

One of my two EE chicks was enormous. I was certain she was a rooster. Dwarfed the others until they were fully grown. She was the first the lay by a long a shot. I'll never know when my Sussex girl would've laid as she was taken by that coyote this morning, but my other EE is looking like she's ready any day now.

I have two cackle EE that I got from the feed store as sexed pullets. One was yellow the other a light blue. Both had very pale chipmunk stripes. Anyway the blue was always bigger than EVERYONE else and was a boss from day 1. I just knew she was a roo but she gives me an egg every day religiously. She's still bigger than everyone, especially her sister, she has long tale feathers (they are NOT pointy, just long and arch a little), and mounts all the other hens. She's like a she male. I've heard of hens taking on male traits and hormones over time and I keep thinking she's doing that. I keep waiting for her to crow at some point.

If these quail eggs don't develop I must find something else to hatch.
Something not normal.
Maybe I can try the chicken balut eggs again, although they were sold out this morning.
I was actually planning on buying a few of the chicken baluts today and was sad to see there was none.

Emu? OR SOME BUTTON QUAIL EGGS!!! So we can all swoon over the teeny tiny babies!

Interesting. I have never had a chicken with spurs before. She's never used them, thank goodness. I'm pretty sure she is too stupid to realize that they're there.
