➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

:lau Before the hammie she was begging for a rat. I ALMOST let her have one but what deterred me was the size housing the need. We have two dogs and a huge fish tank and 4 people crammed into my tiny little 1100 sq ft pad and I just couldn't figure out how to fit something that size. Little bear our Syrian ended up getting an entire 40g breeder to himself which was bad enough. That's what I'm taking to the lps to get rid of. I'm so ready for it to be gone. Anyway I hope the gerbil works out. I think they are less bitey than the dwarf hamsters which is what we were thinking of so we are going to try it out.itll be loved more than most I know so a least there's that as a silver lining.
Yes, the housing can be intense. I bounced from cage to cage before biting the bullet and getting a Critter Nation.. never looked back. Truly the Rolls Royce of rodent housing.
I haven’t been bitten by a gerbil.. yet (knock on wood). In my experience they are very similar to chinchillas: cute but very quick and flighty, definitely more of a “look don’t touch” pet.
Dwarf hamsters are absolutely more bitey. Why such small obnoxious rodents are such popular pets over much more cuddly options, I have no idea.
(Actually I do have an idea.. cute things sell. Sigh.)

Room temp.
They are stored on the stores counter top.
My store receives them on Thursday from the baluttie maker.
I buy them on Fridays.

My first balut eggs were stored in my refrigerator for about 5 hours before I realized there was ducks inside of them.
I'm betting my baluttie store has them in a refer case... I may not get lucky with them then. Perhaps the regular duck eggs are fertile. I'll candle this weekend and see if there is anything going on in there.

That’s awesome! Glad you know what you’re getting into haha. I’m personally not a fan of the flightier rodents, that’s why I like rats so much. They’re chill and don’t act like idiots.
If your daughter happens to not get along with gerbils for whatever reason, she should look into them!

I saw the CUTEST little blue hooded rat at the reptile store yesterday. He was a in the feeder tanks but they sell them as pets too. He was the most gorgeous little dumbo though, you would’ve loved him. ;)
:sick

I would still try the refrigerated ones.
I had my first two in the fridge for a while before I put them in the ghetto bator.
