Blech!!! Booh to German Shepherds! My dad is just all over them and out of all five, ONE has been healthy and mentally sound. These were all German or Czech lineage dogs.
First pup was beautiful. She couldn't swallow properly. Had to be put down. Second one was a lanky girl, sweet as can be. Hips went bad at six months, had to be put down. Third was a German import, physically perfect. MENTAL. Attacked our goats, nearly killed them, tore the garbage apart, gnashed her teeth at us kids. I hated her. She was awful and vicious. After the second goat attack, put her down. Fourth one, gorgeous solid black male, very sound. Utterly humorless and couldn't care less about anyone but my dad. Wouldn't play with other dogs, constantly harassed our other golden we had, murdered cats (got mine and broke her leg and she nearly starved in the woods). He lived fourteen years. In his later life, he was alright. Fifth one. Beautiful, playful, obedient. FINALLY!
I also can't do English Bulldogs. Blech. I've met too many awful, poorly behaved, aggressive and inbred ones. Only a handful that don't look like they're going to fall over dead at any second. Sorry, @littleprairieheartsfarm! Your big guy is gorgeous though :love
I understand that, our pair have been chosen carefully to avoid that. Our female could use some work in the confirmation department but our male should balance out any issues. Both are very healthy, and fantastic dogs. Ours just get ear infections, but so does our Mastiff. Our Mastiff hates people though, and if we have family over they have to understand that if they look him in the eyes or even talk to him then he feels threatened and will bark. He has never ever threatened to bite though, he’s too good of a dog for that. Just doesn’t like people, and frankly I don’t blame him. :gig

I will never own a German, they are the epitome of aggressive, and so prey-driven. All of our dogs are farm animal friendly, even our cat. He watches over the peeps too. :)

This is the infamous bed-dwelling Sweetie Monster! Sweetie is a rescue pupper DH and I adopted 8 years ago. Not really sure what kind of mix she is. Might have some pit ancestry. The coat pattern is more like a heeler though. What we do know is that she is a precious sweetheart and we loves her :love She has a few anxiety issues and likes take refuge in our bed. We don’t mind.
She's got a lovely color :)

My in-laws have a German imported shepherd too. The Ginger grew up with them and is obsessed (I think my MIL used to show them?). I guess none of their’s were neurotic.
I couldn’t care less about the breed, I just want a good natured dog and you can’t always get that from a random pick of a breeder’s litter. You definitely can if you foster to adopt, though!
All the ranch dogs are sweethearts, they wouldn’t allow killers there.

Makes sense. That certainly wouldn't jive with a ranch! I know there are good and bad from all breeds, but I just don't care for the breed characteristics. I wish I did because to me, they encompass that perfect "noble dog" in the looks department.
I'm partial to Dobermans as well as the goldens. I love my lab/dobie mix. He's a goof ball. Loves other dogs and hasn't got an aggressive bone in his body. Too simple to have anxiety...
I'm sure I'll just end up at the pound when the time comes, like I always have before. Gotta love a mutt!

Ok, last post. I HAVE to sleep.
This is my beautiful baby (not quite a baby anymore) rescue pup, Clementine. I’m almost positive she was abused. She hates loud noises, sudden movements, and prefers to sleep under beds than on a comfy dog pillow. But if she decides you’re worthy, she’ll “subtly” punch you on the leg until you cuddle her.
She is way too smart and spends all her time watching the Golden’s make fools of themselves and/or leading them into trouble.

Always good to hear - responsible breeding!
Yup - never on the Germans here! Been there, done that! I think my next dog will need to be a good water dog. Maybe a nice medium size that can sit on a kayak... I look forward to the training. Should be a real kick in the pants!

That cone pic.... And Clementine :love Those ears. I just wanna touch their softness.

I had a purebred rescue Doberman that was very badly abused. He was so scared of everything when I got him. Lighters, cameras, the television. The doorbell. Men. Everything. Took years, but he turned into a real dog! Wagging his adorable little nub tail. I lost him to prostate cancer when he was seven. Poor guy.

Sleep off that spider bite!

Thank you! Our female will have her first litter at 2, and she won’t have more than 4 litters at the most. We have them more for pets. These two have made us fall in love with the breed. :)

Our lab mix haaaaates water! :gig Our bullies and Mastiff love the water, it’s so funny! We introduced them to water early though which is probably why they like it and she doesn’t.

Mutts are awesome though, can never go wrong with a mix. :)

She’s a real dog now for sure! We had some issues with roaming and little kids but she’s gotten better. Still hates thunderstorms though.

The dog above, my in-laws border collie, just got back from a kayak trip. I hear she was the life of the party with her little life vest and would sit perfectly at the front of the kayaks.
Clementine on the other hand wouldn’t be caught dead in the water, I’m positive she’s more cat than dog.

Actually going to sleep now. Goodnight! :)
