➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Ducks will share the nest boxes or nest on the floor of the coop.

The new babies are out! :woot
They just want in with our others but the older ones keep charging the fence so not quite ready yet. If I can get my brother to help me, I’ll take a comparison picture to show how much bigger our others are.

Ramp yes. I'd do it.
I know nothing about duck nesting boxes but I would assume they can share as long as they are low enough. Build a poop tray under the roost so the chickens don't poop on the ducks.

This would solve so much! Thx! :highfive: Now we just have to socialize the ducklings with the chicks to get them used to each other and then we'd just have to figure out where to put their swimming area. And will I have to have water in the coop thru the night? I was hoping to be able to pull up food and water like I do now and just put it back out when I let them out. That's how I do for the chickens. But these are ducks and not chickens and I'm still reading and researching and learning. I thought people were exaggerating when they said ducks are messy. They weren't. :gig

Our ducks need water even through the night. You can make a duck waterer that is deep enough for them to clear their nares and would reduce spilling a bowl. I’ll see if I can find it.

Currently we have them using a metal feed trough for their water. They can dip their heads in and clear their nares. They can't get their bodies in so they don't spill as much as if it was just in a bowl or dish or something but they still do splash some. A couple have tried putting one leg in one hole and another leg in another hole and squatting down. Silly ducks! They realized that that doesn't work. Yesterday they got in behind of the waterer and pushed the dang thing down off of the wood with mesh platform that we have it sitting on. So I gave them some playtime in the bathtub with a little clover pieces ripped up for them to go for to tire them out. That worked. I'm learning. LOL

Ducks will stop at nothing to make everything an absolute mess. :gig They love to swim so invest in a kiddie pool ASAP.

Here is the waterer I was talking about.

We have one of those large hard plastic kiddie pools that we bought for the dogs that they won't go near so I figured we'd use that. Want to put a drain (like a sink drain) inside of it, then attached to a 90 and pvc pipe so it can be drained and cleaned easier. As well as a way in and out of it. That's the intention. Until then, they get bathtub time.
