I straight up use crisco when I do fried chicken too. If you're going to do it, do it right... right?

Yes it's possible, but everything has to be perfect for it to work. The key is oil temperature. It's really hard to maintain the right temp in a home fry pot. That's why you'll get the first one cooked through but really greasy, one or two good pieces and the rest cooked or even burnt on the outside but raw on the inside. It also takes so much oil that it's easier to oven fry.

I don't know..I've never measured the temp of the grease before.
I just wing it.

My mom used to keep an oil can by the stove when we were growing up, bacon fat, Crisco, you name it. Sounds gross but it made the food taste so good.

Exactly, they don't come out quite as crispy unless you use panko. I've even had it with crushed pork rinds breading.
