➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Oh where I do begin.....
My healthy chicks are dead....
My babies have almost all died :hit

Went from happy peepers to dropping dead in less than 3 hours. I got home just in time to watch the second one die on my hand....

I am a wreck. I am so upset that I don't even want to keep chickens anymore. I lost half my volume of birds this summer alone.

I am tossing everything I had in with them and buying new stuff for the last one left.

Like a godsend I just had another local breeder contact me to give me some of his eggs.
I'm so, so sorry. :hugs

Is it possible they were poisoned somehow? Maybe a family member replaced the brooding light using a teflon coated bulb while you were away? There was a long thread earlier this year about someone who lost 12 hens in one afternoon after mistakenly replacing their heating lamp bulb with a teflon coated one.

Did you over heat them?

I hope so, too. Only other thing I can think of is toxins in the new waterer.
They had severe neurological damage immediately before death.
What did their poop look like? Did you get your Corid back from EmbB? You will forever need to keep that on hand now.

I got the Corid back.
Poop was normal.

I'm sorry.

I don't think so. They had been all over the brooder before they went down.

No change in bulb. I read that thread as it was happening. We think there was toxins in the old feed.

If the feed is bad you should be able (I think) smell something off.
I'm wondering two things....if the person you bought eggs from has disease in his flock and wondering if what killed your recent birds had something to do with these dying.

I'm changing breeders now so when those eggs hatch that may help prove or debunk that.
Maybe. But these birds didn't exhibit the same symptoms.

I’m so sorry! :hugs Hopefully it was just the feed, and the new breeder’s eggs are even better. How local is the new breeder? Will the eggs still have to be shipped?
