➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Eggs. Hmmm. So, yeah. Been exciting here this weekend.

7 eggs under the broody, who I thought was the same broody as earlier (smaller leghorn). So I was amazed that she stuck to the nest so well. Turns out, this is another leghorn. I confirmed this because floppy broody is trying to sit on the OTHER nest. The one with golf balls. So, she got evicted.

So, I thought I was going to candle with the kids this weekend, but it was hectic and didn't do it. But I did a lot of research. So I have some questions.

Oh, the EEs are growing and are now the size of the smaller leghorns. Interesting to see how the flock dynamics are changing. The EEs are getting more assertive and the leghorns aren't liking it. I miss the others. They were way friendlier than the flighty leghorns or EEs. Still working on making friends here.

It has been 10 or 15 days for the eggs. Been looking at the charts and worrying if I have enough lumens for the brown eggs. So, what does a floating blob mean? Do you call that an early quitter and pull it? Not really moving as much as floating. What do you do if they are clear? Clear means that there is not a blob? The one that are clear, what do you do with those? compost?

Watching Kiki's videos, the only movement you see is the shadows change? Pretty interesting. And the brown eggs are harder to see into. Amazing. Really amazing.

Good night all.

What kind of eggs are you hatching? Breed?

Maybe I move on fast or something but I've already stopped being angry and horribly upset.
But I also have the firm belief that everything happens for a reason.
I'm so sorry you lost the chicks, but maybe they weren't meant to be. :hugs Maybe an opportunity will open up that wouldn't have been available if you had the chicks. I hope you don't give up on chickens and your next incubation goes smoothly.

I love him! Do leghorn roos with this colorin even exist? What would it be called even? Its like a Columbian but the red on white. Does that happen? (Yes, I see the time- don't judge me)
I don't think this coloration exists, but I would call it red laced Columbian. It would be awesome to breed that coloration.

That's torture! I go in for my fist hospital clinic of the semester tomorrow at 6 and won't leave until 2:30 so I feel your pain. But i should get to eat unless there's an emergency God forbid. I do get a 4 day weekend most weeks though!:woot

May 1995 I got called in early for flash flooding and ended up working 36hrs straight at the fire dept. When I finally made it home I came home to about 200 total head of birds dead. Chickens, quail, pheasants most biddies in brooders I ended up getting out of birds completely till a few yrs ago. The flood was so bad we were rescuing people from their second story window in flat boats in some spots. The great flood of 95

Well you can now say you know 1 person who isn't. I ended up with blood splatter in my eye after doing chest compressions on a dying woman on my second day of clinicals ever. I've been ruined ever since. I mean, I'm still committed, but there is no fun left in it for me. Had to have blood work done immediately afterwards. It's a really big deal when blood transfer occurs and I was freaking out!
Oh gosh! That doesn’t sound fun at all.
