What lethal gene?
I'm not sure yet. ( I need to read more but probably won't until tomorrow)
I just tagged you over there.
Yes, white genes can be lethal. There is a "light down lethal" and they are English Whites but in 3 weeks they die or don't make it as little chicks. Some make it but carry the gene.

@Tesumph i just posted a question in your thread. Hope it's ok . I posted there bc I thought you'd be interested too. I'm wanting a little more info on the red wing leakage and the time frames it will show up by. I know it to be true but I'm still not 100% that it can't show up closer to sexual maturity so I just asked jase for a little more detail basically. Im super curious bc my OE chick I have that I had pegged as a cockerel at around week 2 has stopped looking so boyish judging by comb alone. His comb development has slowed significantly and he's around 6-7 weeks (ish) AND there is NO red wing leakage. I feel pretty confident that it would have some bc it appears to be of ameraucana Marans lineage so I'm wondering if he/she could still get it later. @Ursuline Chick at what age do your Marans roosters get the red on their wings? Geez I didn't realize I was typing this much! Yikes!

Who to build a separate pen?

I'll volunteer :P

We have a NH hen...:D We do have a separate pen but there isn't space to attach a run to it and we can't exactly add one to it either. Now the EE boy I want to get rid of because he's so flighty it's annoying!

Maybe get rid of the EE instead of the NH?

Out of curiosity, do you know the mix of that boy?

If possible you should keep #2 as well for backup

Agree

The EE? No unfortunately, I mean he's turning into a pretty cockerel. I guess we could probably make some Olive Eggers from him and our Marans but they're crazy and he's flighty it would make some baaaad mixes lol

Lol sounds like a bad idea

That is a true statement! I'm hoping that the hens will correct some of his flaws. His back isn't the most desirable, and his tail could use a little work.

If you keep him, you could keep working on that :P

I a breeding program I'd always try to have backup just incase. One incident could set you back a year or more

Why a year? While you wait to grow another roo out?

That's really true, and much easier than having to go and track down a new breeder.

Where did you get the current one from?

Huh, weird. Works for me.

Try this link. It's the regular one rather than mobile.
