(Headsup: possible dumb question ahead.) I just noticed some rust spots in the water dish part of my metal waterer. Isn't this unsafe for the chickens? And if so is there a safe fix for this or do I just replace it?

Doubt it'd hurt. My chickens drink from lots of things, one of which is a wheelbarrow with enough rust to dye a gallon of water red.

I have these which are not mine to use, are super long and REEK of chemicals

There are small hoses in most toilet tanks, small but maybe too big tubes in under counter soap dispensers, maybe shrink tubing used around electrical connections...
