Not as far as I know, I think he's been kept singly. Depending on where you look, average age is anywhere from 10--20 yrs.

Probably it's dry. My shephard/lab mix gets that when she is digging and nosing around in dry soil. There is a product called "bio balm" that works well to re-hydrate it.
