➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

My bantam cochin didn't lay eggs or go broody this year. The freeloader!
What a turd! I've got five bantam cochins and they laid like crazy. Then, they all went broody at the same time! I had them all in the rabbit hutch to break them. It took two weeks. TWO WEEKS. Two more before they start laying again then another month or so before going broody again. At least only three of them went broody a second time. I do love them though. Little bun butts.

:hugs It's so hard with the cockerels. Even if the crowing is not an issue, what to do with all the little guys? I've got 4 left and have slated today for culling one more. He's starting to get into staring contests with Duke and I've already decided that he is not going to be my replacement roo. But he's a nice little guy, and it's hard. Whelp. I eat chicken. I'm going to put his meat in the "for sausage" bin, as it's easier for us to eat the extra boys when they are turned into something that doesn't remind us so strongly of what they once were.

Could not agree more.

So cute!
Thanks, the sausage idea is a great one, Reminds me of the part in the movie "Giant" where the kids are around the table on Thanksgiving day, and one asks if the bird on the table is Pedro, the turkey they have been feeding (and fattening up) The grandma proudly says yes it is and all the kids start yelling and crying. :lau:gig

I worked at the MIni's school book fair this morning and am going back tomorrow.
I might have tried to convince a teacher that she needs two house quail.
She said she would talk to he DH tonight. :fl

I will be bothering her again tomorrow.:D
Good luck :fl:fl

When I was really little we had a evil rooster named Stewart. He terrorized everyone except for my dad. Dad tried every trick but he just kept attacking everyone. So, dinner he became. As the story goes, mom put him on the table and us kids looked at the bird, looked at mom and asked if it was Stewart. When she said yes, we all started bawling and didn't want to eat him! We did, because that was the rule, but we all cried about it.

@honanbm Everytime I see your avatar I think about my old chicken hat from October Fest. Will have to dig it out and take a picture with it on so all of you can laugh at me.

I would absolutely love seeing you in a chicken hat! Make my Friday and post a pic!!!!

Will look for it tomorrow night or Saturday. Had bought it for DD when she was very young and was in love with the poor guy in the giant chicken suit. She would follow him all over and try to hug him until we had to make her stop. :lau:lau

Wow! The entire year? That's crazy! I don't even count my bantam birds when I'm considering how many eggs I should be getting bc they're so wishy washy with their laying but a whole year? Geez! My bantams are really my girls' and I probably wouldn't even have them if it weren't for the kids except the one i got rid of. She was clockwork... laid for three weeks every day then went broody. Never missed except for a little while after being broody to get back on track. She was a frizzle Cochin bantam and a great little chicken. I miss that one.
Yeah, she's about 2. I got her in January and haven't seen anything from her. She's adorable though. She also came with a pretty cool name. Cluckerella. Originally there was Cluckerella 1 & 2, but I lost one to mycoplasma in March.
