➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I showed that photo to some of our millenials here thinking they would know...I have to appreciate a few of them...one of the more outspoken ones was like "that would be the boyfriend ho look" I guess boyfriend shirt....cut to be "ho style". I don't know. :lau:gig:lau

That's the only pullet. There's another cockerel that I didn't get a pic of that flies up onto my back every time I bend over.

I have one of those special chickens. Picks the lint off my shirt while she's there, pulls my hair to get my attention....almost pecked my eye out and left a mark on my cheek because I didn't get the worm container open fast enough....

You know how it is....

It really makes you pay attention to what you eat when you butcher your own food. If it means eating a little less meat that might be a good thing, especially if the meat that is eaten was ethically raised. I don’t raise a lot of my own food by any means but the few birds I have had to cull and eat have really made me think about things.

That’s a great reason to start raising them. :) I’m starting to realize that it is always important to know where they are coming from, and appreciate how they are providing food for your family.

:thumbsup I was wondering how the price compared to grocery store chickens. To me, I was confused as to why people would raise their own as opposed to buying the .99/lb chicken at the grocery store, but the factory farming, and know where and how they were raised makes sense to me.
The taste factor would be a nice plus, especially since lately it seems like most grocery brand chicken isn’t very tender anymore.

When I bought the 99/lb chicken I would get 2 meals and soup out of one 5lb bird
for just me

When I bought the $5/lb cx non gmo raised in the tractor I would get 4 meals and soup out of a 5lb bird.. because it was expensive

Now that I raise it is organic fed and has lots of room to run and play and lives to be 16 wks instead of 6-8 wks...
I get 6 meals and soup out of a 5lb, cx mix with heritage bird, because it's a lot of work and I think it's over $5/lb
They are not as tender but I usually roast them anyway.

I assume Buckeye from what they look like as chicks? Very colorful chickens! (buckeyes to me are those chocolate candies filled with peanut butter....yum!!! :drool)
