I assume Buckeye from what they look like as chicks? Very colorful chickens! (buckeyes to me are those chocolate candies filled with peanut butter....yum!!! )

Yup. They have a beautiful mahogany colour when grown.

The mom is a really scruffy looking silkie


Those yummy confections are made to look like a buckeye nut. Poisonous, but the trees are beautiful. We found a nursery nearby that carries them. Once the house is done we're going to plant one.

Chicken here costs $6/lb and up in the stores, so raising them myself costs about the same.
