➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

When I bought the 99/lb chicken I would get 2 meals and soup out of one 5lb bird
for just me

When I bought the $5/lb cx non gmo raised in the tractor I would get 4 meals and soup out of a 5lb bird.. because it was expensive

Now that I raise it is organic fed and has lots of room to run and play and lives to be 16 wks instead of 6-8 wks...
I get 6 meals and soup out of a 5lb, cx mix with heritage bird, because it's a lot of work and I think it's over $5/lb
They are not as tender but I usually roast them anyway.
I get that. :) If we raised them ourselves for meat then they would be on the same diet (organic) and situation.
My family buys the high quality, organic fed chicken (my mom got really sick from the lower quality) from the store anyways so in all honesty it probably wouldn’t be much of a difference regarding price, but it’s the killing process that bothers me so much. Processing I wouldn’t have a problem with, it’s just the initial life-ending. :hmm

Resources for Animal Food Producers in Flooded Areas
As Hurricane Florence approaches the south east coast of the United States, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine reminds those who may be affected by Hurricane Florence about resources available for animal food producers who may be harvesting, mixing, storing or distributing grains and other foods for animals.

The FDA reminds harvesters that crops harvested from flooded fields are often unacceptable because of contamination. Flood waters, which are different from pooled rain water, may contain sewage, pathogenic organisms, pesticides, chemical wastes, or other toxic substances. Mold growth is another serious concern for flood impacted crops intended for use in animal food. Some molds produce mycotoxins, which are toxic to certain animals and people.

yes taking a life bothers me too. If I found someone that raised them like I do, I would just buy from them instead
