➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Also, to follow up on the value of raising your own meat. I stopped at a high end market today. Their "organic, free range chicken" was $4.69/lb. (Yes, this is California). So, at $1.5 lb for my meaties, I feel like I am killing it.
That’s awesome!

They do not look like obvious boys to me. I can see your concern, but I would not worry quite yet. If those combs continue to redden and grow in the next two weeks, I would be more worried. Right now, I think they could go either way.
I don’t know what we’ll do if they turn out to be boys. :th We’ll just have to give them to whoever wants them, and try not to think about what happens to them. :(

If they are cockerels then I give up trying to hatch anything. I’m almost 110% certain our newest hatchling is also a boy. That would be 5/6 boys, and our only for sure sex-link pullet was a malpo. It’s just frustrating.

They don't look like boys. Australorps right? Combs would be much bigger and redder at 8 weeks if they were boys, right?
No ma’am. One is a Brahma x Australorp and the other is Langshan x Australorp.
These two are full siblings, so I’m hoping since his comb is so developed it means it’s a pullet.

Ohhh okay, I thought these were the the blue Australorps for some reason lol

Yep, she sure does look like a pullet! That comb on her brother sure is developed for that age! Wow!

Yeah, they've been advertising on the radio here in TN pretty heavy about this land. It's quite a ways away from where I currently live and I don't have the money for that kind of investment at this point in time in my life. If I did tho, I'd love to have 14 or so acres of property and build on it.

They advertise on radio about property? I don't listen to radio much so maybe I miss it ha but it's an event right? Lots of properties? I think it said there was a sale Saturday.

And yeah me neither but I thought some of them were really gorgeous, especially the WV one. And sadly those aren't even that bad cause around here there's a lot for 1 and 2 million or more and really not many below like 400 or 500. A lot are like 600 or 700. For tiny lots too.

Sounds like a fascinating breed with a long, long history! Are they terribly pricey?:)
Their price was just reduced. Original was $1200, now $950. I just talked with the breeder. She's got one with a tooth growing in wrong. The vet says everything should be fine once his baby teeth fall out. That guy is going for $500. He won't be able to be registered but I'm not worried about that.

Their half brother, who is a Maran cross in the back is insanely developed! He’s basically his father in an 8 week old body. Already pulling on some young Australorp pullets, been crowing since 5 weeks old, calls their little flock over when he’s found a treat. It’s crazy. :gig Him and his brother (the more developed sibling Langshan) would fight all the time as 2-6 week olds but as of right now they’re established in their order. It’ll probably change by tomorrow :idunno

And I live in oil country! There's oilfields 1 hour southwest of me and refineries 1 hour east. Go figure.
I can’t even begin to imagine. That’s crazy. We’re located right in between the South Texas oil and Oklahoma oil, but when Harvey hit down south everyone in the entirety of North Texas ran to the gas pumps...and of course that day my truck desperately needed gas so we waited in line for an hour at a gas pump and paid a ridiculous amount per gallon. It was regularly 1.98 a gallon at the time and I think we paid 3.55 that day.
