Chicken math is REAL.Yesterday, earlier in the day, when I was having a "I don't know if I picked out an EE" moment, my hubby said, "well go up to TSC and pick out a couple more that you think are EE". We started out with 6... just got 4 more... So that's 10. There is a 4 purchase minimum... so I'd HAVE to grab 4. That's 14. The recently added and any newly added (if I actually went and got some) are straight runs so surely there are cockerels. So there's where subtraction would come in. We'd only keep 1 male.
*side note*
I am soooo hoping that my D'Uccle is a male. It was suggested that if s/he turns out to be a boy that I should name him Napoleon, which I did think would be funny, but I have decided he is an Elvis. When I see the feathers coming off his little feet, it just makes me think of like the jumpsuits that Elvis would where that flared out at the boots and were all fancy looking. And his feet look fancy to me. Idk. It's just the way my brain works.
Ok, back to contemplating more chickies....
My coop is only 4'x8' and 6' tall with 4 nest boxes and 2 roosting bars. So 32 sq ft yes? And the chicks are only in there to sleep and lay eggs. That's it. They're free range the rest of the time. But we haven't had winter yet so I don't know what, if any, issues we'll have with the chickens. I do have the little prefab coop that they used to be in that would be fine for 2-3 really comfortably, especially if the D'Uccle and Silkie have too much trouble with the big girls once the time comes to try to integrate them in to the flock. OMGOSH ya'll! I need help. I am super tempted. Chicken Math!I need more coffee....
Oh, and Good Morning everyone!

I love the name Elvis for the feather footed one.
