➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

What do you guys think of purchasing rare/rarer stock from a hatchery and slowly building the birds up to SQ?
Ideal has a lot of bantams specifically that I have been looking for but have been unable to find.
It's a good starting place if you can't find a breeder. The upside of hatcheries is that they don't coddle their stock, so you won't find the wheezy runts quite as much as you otherwise might.

With White Chanteclers, Ideal is actually a fairly good source. I think it's Ideal, anyway.

I think that is a fabulous idea!

Agreed, Banty.
What I like about this option is that I can order large quantities of chicks (and select genders) then wittle my way down.
And for some of these, the variety I want is rare but the breed is common in the show ring. So I can order my variety of choice then bring in show quality stock of another variety that I can outbreed to with a good % of chicks coming out with the variety that I'm after.
I.E Blue hatchery stock bred to Black show stock.

I don't think bantams are sold sexed.
Just straight run.
