Season's Greetings to everyone! :frow

Call in sick.
I thought you were anti-truancy? School or work, ya gotta go and do the adult thing.

47°F outside at the house. Glad I'm not outside doing chicken things.

Inside with the oven going. Making pumpkin mash. Will do the pumpkin stuff for work tomorrow. Thinking about homemade bread.

2 weeks to 2 months for a cockerel scream. Hmm.

Its 13°F here. I would consider 47°F a heat wave and would definitely be outside enjoying the warmth.

probably in short sleeves too. :D

My nose hurts just thinking about 13°F. On a brighter note, we are still at 76% humidity... and sopping wet from the rains that were broadcast all over the world yesterday. Must have been a slow news day.

Nah, I never wear short sleeve shirts.

The outside humidity is 48% due to the amount of snow still on the ground on the north side of the house. It is 82°F and 12% humidity in the greenhouse with a door open to prevent it from getting too hot.

I know some people here have goats, so I have a question for them. With regards to hoof trimming, I’ve been reading that it’s better to start off with a kid to get it used to the trims when young, but other people say it doesn’t matter and they’ll fight you anyways to do them. So the question is, would you say that if started younger with the feet, that it makes them easier to do once they get older? Also we’d probably only look at does, and/or wethers, we don’t really want or need a buck.

(We have a draft horse who will fight you with his back hooves because of a psychological past issue with them, and so it’s not the fight that brings me to the question, I’m not scared of fighting them, just if kids are a better option than adults)

I'd say it depends on the goat. We had a few breeds growing up and my favorites are the Lamanchas. They were sweet and gentle and less nasty to trim.
Regardless of how old they are, unless they've been mistreated, someone has been trimming their hooves so they ought to be used to it to a certain extent.
What kind of goats are you getting?
I'm also getting goats this spring! So excited. I think I'm going with the mini Lamancha or the mini Nubian.

I love them :) I guess there's a goat rescue around here somewhere that loves the old trees... the goats eat them!
We got a free Christmas tree yesterday because it wasn't up to the tree lot's standards. My brother topped it and made a cute sad Charlie Brown tree and we gave the rest to my boyfriend's goats this morning. They went to town on it as soon as we put in their enclosure.

Awesome! No waste :)
