➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Of course, I planted the seeds in November.

Just seems really early for Wyoming!!

I so wish I was organized enough to have a garden that thrives. We tried last yr. I had an abundance of cucumbers and crook neck squash. A couple zucchini made it. Red bell pepper plants started to grow but ended up getting stunted and just wouldn't do anything else. Everything else we tried didn't do anything. We're going to try again this yr but plan/section the plants out and see if that will help us. Almost like individual beds and just do what we'll eat and can manage. Idk. We need to do something. We aren't natural green thumb people and are learning along the way.

Aw it sounds liek you had some do well though! I don’t really do anything special, just use good starter soil, and good garden soil and this year I mixed it with my regular dirt. Although it’s funny, the plants on the edge of the compost pile, thrived and got so big, and the others, while they did well, definitely did not do as well as the ones on the other side lol I was trying not to use the pile last year because we had just moved the chickens in April and it was their old run so didn’t want to use it for food crops, but some tomatoes ended up on the edge, and we planted pumpkins in it. I hope the pumpkins did not take all the nutrients. Perhaps that was a stupid move aha but I think this year they will hopefully really thrive because I am using the compost pile/old chicken run.

I have best luck with banana peppers
I had four types the last few years and I have the best luck with those every year

I’ve never tried banana peppers but maybe I will have to! I usually do bells, typically California Wonder but last year I also bought some started Lady Bell at the garden store. This year I am trying sweet chocolate.

Banana peppers aren’t hot right? I don’t normally like hot peppers.

Fogging to be a diverse garden. Good for you.

Last year was a difficult gardening year for zones 6-7. We had great peas, cucumbers, squash, garlic, okra and potatoes, but not so good on cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce or carrots. Usually have enough to can the tomatoes. Best tomato was Rupunzel cherry tomato. A lot of stuff came up nicely, then fizzled out befor the crop. Started transplants like usual and many just grew slowly and then went dormant.
We have raised beds and load up with aged compost and straw for mulch.

Thanks! That was the aim because normally we just grow peppers and tomatoes aha last year we did grow eggplant and lettuce too and tried squash but they died although that was my fault because I forgot to water them for a bit before I transplanted and then tried to save them with transplant but it was too late. Although they appeared to be coming back for a bit and flowered but then died. My peppers didn’t do so well but one I forgot to transplant to a bigger pot so had 2 plants in one small one and the other two were in ground but got overshadowed by the tomatoes. My tomatoes took off last year, we had wayyy too many tomatoes but we also had like 15 plants aha planting way less this year. But they did well although some were cracked and towards the end the potted ones developed blight pretty bad. We tried a strawberry plant which did okay but the animals ate all the fruit. The pumpkins thrived, took over even aha. The eggplant did well too but it did get a little bit overshadowed but did well despite that. The lettuce was potted and all did well. I did not think anything would do well because it definitely was a really weird year for these zones but yet mine still did well despite it and idk why, I didn’t do anything special, and in fact, I way overcrowded them and did not follow the recommended spacing (I thought they don’t really need that much, it’ll be fine). This year the garden is wayyy bigger and I am going to actually follow spacing rules lol

...definitely jealous. I need a bigger coop.
If you didn't live on ice, I'd say start building. Since you live on ice, wait for the summer thaw? Do a cattle panel aviary with the rodents!! And Lagomorpha! (Guinea Pigs, elves and rabbits. Did you know rabbits aren't rodents?)

Quail coop number 1 should be finished this weekend, weather permitting. It will be a chilly 50ish. I'll dress warmly. May even wear long pants. :)

I have an idea in my head for a build for next year. A grow-out pen slash winter run. I don't have a cost estimate yet, which would be the biggest limiting factor.

...elves? And yes, I did know that. I read it in a book once when I was a child, and it took me years after that to not obnoxiously correct anyone and everyone who called rabbits 'rodents'.

5 Quail = 1 chicken dinner. That is 100 dinners. With no guests. Good start, what are you eating the rest of the year? Chicken? You doing CX this year???
:plbb JEALOUS! We will send you pictures.

Hi, @Tesumph! Pretty pictures. Glad you your trip is going well! Stay warm.

Yes! Starting on the garden. Need to get the tomatoes and peppers started this month. February is around the corner. Daughter reclaiming the kitchen garden from the weeds. And the cabbage, broccoli and .. and..:wee
I think I might have to aim for 1000 then. 100 meals does not sound like a lot.

A delicate flower such as you being obnoxious? Tell me it isn't so.
You evidently didn't know me as a small kid, lol. If I was right, I made sure everyone knew it. Took me a while to clue into the fact that it wasn't polite to walk up to an adult and tell them to their face that they were incorrect and then prattle on about the correct way. It wasn't cute once I got past age six.

This does NOT look comfy to me. My dog is a weirdo! :lau
