➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

My dad surprisingly seems onboard with more chickens but he did NOT seem onboard when I mentioned I wanted to add 10 more :lau even though I said I’d build the new coop. But he does agree we need more eggs. So I’m thinking I need to narrow it down to like 3 or 4 so they can fit in the current coop :hit or I could just order all of them and not tell him. :lau  but thinking I need to NARROW IT DOWN lol

I'd go with the Buckeye, NH red, and either the EE or Partridge rock depending on if you had a blue layer already or not.

Thanks. I was thinking similar except I’ve wanted to try Speckled Sussex and Wyandotte for a very long time. But I have heard Wyandottes can be mean to other hens? And I am sick of having bullies in a flock. Although maybe the young ones would not bully the older ones? And I have heard Speckled Sussex aren’t very good layers? But I love their coloring and have heard they are very sweet birds. But both birds are also massive and probably not the best foragers and/or pretty expensive to feed? Which is kind of a pain. Idk. I was thinking Speckled Sussex, Partridge Rock, and maybe Wyandottes or NHR. But idk. Was thinking maybe I should get a sex link or leghorn for the eggs too but idk.

Leghorns are good, solid layers with intelligence. Didn't like sex links. Or Wyandottes. Though it sounds like your priorities are more eye candy, in which case, go for it. Get the pretty ones. :D

I’ve been thinking about your situation, and I think even if you only add 5 more girls to your flock then it’ll help your situation. Space is the biggest issue that you are going to have, because as long as the boys have enough room away from each other, freeranging, it’ll lower the frequency of fighting.

Negan and his son would leave each other alone, but when Negan tried to mate any of the hens his son would go ballistic on him, which is when he picked up this stupid habit of his has now of rushing the hens.

So seeing as they are smaller in size and not as quick to cover the ground to get at each other I think just a few more hens will help in the effort to solve your problem with the boys.

The boys seem to be getting along today. I saw Elvis preening Amber's feathers today. I think he is wanting to claim the 2 littles and that is what sparked the fight. Bowie often follows and tidbits for Amber. I've even seem him mate with her once. But just a little bit ago I saw Bowie being Bowie and mating with a few of the big girls. Elvis wasn't paying him any attention. Idk. Boys are a pain!
I have the space. It's just getting the extra girls and waiting for them to grow to maturity. I was checking out Ideal and did a mock checkout list. It would be cheaper to go with them than going through Meyer. The only issue is that I won't have the breed and egg color diversity that I was wanting. So I need to decide whether or not to go with Ideal and only get a few of the breeds/kinds I want but it is cheaper or to go with Meyer and get more breeds that I want but it is more expensive. Decisions, decisions. I also have to figure out when to order them. I'm thinking maybe around the middle of Feb. That way by the time they would feather out it would be around the end of March/beginning of April and should be ok to have outside full time. Also, I looked on Hoover's website since you talked about that Maran breed that you were looking at. They added quite a few new birds. A couple dif green egg layers and a couple of blue egg layers. I wish they didn't have a 15 bird minimum or I'd order from them. But now I am wondering if they'll be offering those breeds in the TSC stores during chick days? So many options! :barnie

I say go with Meyer and get all the breeds you want :p But I am biased since I can’t get all the ones I want and am living vicariously through you :lau and cause mine are from there :D
