➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

And my sugar was still a little high. I think like a year ago, maybe even two years  they said it was a little high/prediabetic but not diabetic and I still never changed anything and in fact have gotten worse with my diet
Not good.

That makes sense then. Sort of. Isn’t the organic stuff more expensive? You can buy the good stuff for only $20? You must have good/cheap grocery stores there. Ours are so expensive :hit and I don’t have anything growing atm. But I have had a garden the last 2 years but so far just tomatoes and peppers although last year I also had lettuce and eggplant and pumpkins. But this year the garden is going to be huge and wayyyy more vegetables. I am trying a bunch of new veggies this year. So I should be able to save some money and eat healthier with all the veggies I will be growing lol I really should cut out processed foods though. Or at least way reduce it. The processed foods definitely add up. That was like $33  even with most of it on sale. Granted that store is more expensive than some others around but still. I shopped hungry and also let my eyes guide me (i.e. oh look! *grab*) bad idea. But I also haven’t had any dessert in forever and “had” to have it, idk craving or something? So then I went crazy and just got a bunch of different desserts. Which is also bad cause I had boston cream filled cake and a piece of cheesecake for dessert cause my mom got both for my dad’s birthday  and we also don’t have any animals besides the chickens so we don’t grow our own meat or have milk cows or goats or anything or fruit so I have to buy some stuff and the meat adds up too. Didn’t buy any this time but we don’t grow our own. I wanted to this year but I don’t think I would be able to handle it. Also we have 3 people so this food isn’t just for me. Granted, I was thinking only of myself when I bought it, but it will get eaten. But we are weird. We don’t really do big shops anymore or tell anyone when we are going. We all just go and buy a bunch of random crap. We really need to stop all the random 50000 trips and making lists and waiting and doing big shops cause that cuts down on some of the impulse buying too.
I stock up when it's on sale
I grow all the chicken and turkey. I eat about 6 lbs a week. I rarely buy beef or pork, but it's from the farmer... usually deer from the property. I eat 4-8 eggs a day..
When the frozen organic veggies are on sale I stock up to supplement what I grow... 2 lb bag of veggies is $2-3 on sale lasts 4 days. Organic banana is 50 cents a pound at Aldi, a bag of organic oranges is less than 4... I eat a lot of black raspberries I grow and freeze. The fruit takes care of the sweet craving .. I buy organic beans and peas for chicken soups
Eta
I shop once a month in winter and spring. Less in summer and fall. One summer I didn't buy food at all.
Now I spend $400 on poultry feed a month and don't sell enough eggs to cover the feed.
I figured I am spending$100 more on feed than I eat or sell

A1C is a 30 day average of your blood sugar. It gives you an idea how high or low your sugars are running. For your age group a score of 6 to 6.5 would be normal. Higher means the diet needs to be tweaked and exercise should be increased.

How cool is that!

Lily would just eat the nerf balls.she can destroy a tennis ball in 5 minutes.

We lost Gertrude ...found her this morning. She had no external injuries from the owl attack and appeared fine that night. But over the past several days she has looked weak. Checked for a broken egg inside, then gave her a penicillin shot just in case. She roamed with her flock until yesterday. The fog and cold got to her. She looked a little ratty.
I put Gertrude in the tub to warm up and bathe. Then dried her and fed her. She was restless in the house so I put her back with her "people". She was in the middle of the group in the duck coop when I found her.
So sorry for your loss:hugs

LOL
When I was a kid...it used to be a drive to the far side of the town to the west to get to a big store. We didn't have a lot of money so I grew up frugal.
Now there's big stores 3 miles away, and I am better off. I could go and spend money every day, but I use restraint

A1C is the average blood glucose level over the past 3 months.

Thanks!

You have to request the A1C.

If you don't change your life style you are going to become diabetic. The medicines can be very expensive. The threat of losing body parts to gangrene and going blind are real.

Thanks, might have to request it.

And yeah, I really need to change

Not good.

Yeah I know.

Oh wow that’s awesome! But wow that’s a lot of eggs!! And meat. Raising your own probably saves some but we don’t so we have to buy it. We usually just buy the cheap stuff or whatever’s at the store or on sale but I don’t like supporting factory farms plus it’s kind of gross so I’m thinking I might start buying the organic chicken or maybe from a local farm cause organic at the store is still factory farmed, right? But we also really don’t cook or eat that much here. And I eat out and go to Subway a lot too. I need to start buying or growing more veggies and fruits. We have an Aldi’s here but I’ve only been in it like once or twice. They built it a few years ago. It’s pretty small though. My uncle has one near him and it is way bigger and nicer but they don’t live near here. We have a Walmart too but I don’t really like their produce. Don’t really like Aldi’s either. We do have a Market Basket though that is really reasonable as well as a BJ’s (one of those wholesale club type places) so I need to start going to both of those. The problem is we have 2 grocery stores literally like 2 miles down the road so it is too easy to just pop in a buy random stuff. But I also pop in the Walmart too even though it’s further and buy non food stuff too.

Wow that is a lot of money! It almost seems like it’d be cheaper to buy groceries?

When I grow up I'd like to be just like you.

I am bad about money. We have soooo many stores sooo close and I am bad about just waltzing in for one thing (or sometimes for nothing, just for fun), and walking out with a million things/way more than I intended and bad about ordering online too

I bet most would spend more on junk food than $100.. the more people are in a store the more likely to buy garbage.

That’s true!! And your food is probably way healthier.

And I definitely spend a lot. I think the problem is we have so many around here and also I think I am maybe a little bored or something so I go driving around for hours and/or go in stores and spend money or order stuff. I think I need to find more hobbies and/or a job lol

And in summer, we have wild raspberries and a wild blueberry bush but I have never eaten any of them. I need to start. DB&FSIL have a big raspberry patch in their yard too cause my grandma planted it a long time ago and they kept it. So I can eat those too. I really should start eating that stuff.

I think there are a lot of ways we can cut back. Like for one just simple self control/impulse control and not buying whatever I see but also making lists and/or doing big shops instead of us all going. And also, maybe more importantly, going to cheaper grocery stores/trying to find deals and not just the closest store. And I think stocking up/buying at once instead of smaller amounts or lots of little trips. But we also eat a lot of meat, dairy, and bread. I think cutting back on or cutting out bread and dairy might be a good idea. Cause we go through a lot of milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. which adds up and really doesn’t do any good. Except maybe like goat milk yogurt or something. But because of all that and the fact that we have 3 people, I don’t think we will ever get down to $20 a week or less than $100 a month or anything like that, but I think we could maybe get somewhat close. But I also need to clean out the fridge and the cabinets because we have a lot of processed stuff in there and also no room in the freezer or cabinets atm. And I think we can also save by cooking way more.

$20 a week is for one person averaged out over a year, summer I spend less....but i can't eat cows milk or wheat so that cuts out a lot of junk food. I do get goat yogurt once in a while when it is on sale, last time I bought 5 large containers =$20. lasted 2 months.
just eat the processed foods in stock and don't replace w/junk...harder to do if the other 2 people aren't on board though.

That makes sense! And yeah, I eat it but it makes me feel kind of weird/sick sometimes or later on so I am thinking I want to cut it anyway. And wow that’s a good deal!!

That’s true, should probably eat what we have first! And yeah true. Need to talk about that ha
