➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Build a quail cage and I'll send you some eggs.

Oooohhhh that would be awesome!! Thanks!!

Thx and yeah, I thought so too. Normally I'm all, " grr grumble grumble, not my animals in my yard, etc etc". Hearing my son explain to me what had happened and them showing me on camera, he was like "they were both bad dogs but at least they didn't attack them" and I am over here just amazed and trying to get them to understand the significance of what had just happened. I was totally focused on something else entirely lol. I think they were good dogs! :clap

Definitely good dogs!! Lol they could have attacked them or ran off but they didn’t seem to, they seemed to stay with them (your son and DH), and keep the goats contained. They didn’t run out to run away, they appear to have ran out to help. And if they have never done it before, I say good dogs. Dogs are very smart animals and they probably have witnessed you guys chasing the goats off your property over and over again, even if it was through the window, and very quickly learned what was desired and then decided that this time they would go out there and do it themselves cause they can do it faster and better than you :lau and seems like they were right, they did do it very quickly lol they were trying to help. I say it’s really cool that they were smart enough to figure out what was wanted/needed on their own just by watching. Smart dogs!! And as long as they came back afterwards, good dogs! And maybe this should even be encouraged/shaped and molded as it is definitely faster and more efficient. Lol

Lamb? Pork? I know you had said you wanted to make lamb at one point.

How big of a cage do you need? Any special requirements for quail?

I think some people keep them in rabbit hutches.

That looks like a cool place!

Not big at all.
I'd say 4 foot by 2 foot is good for 8 quail.
Have you seen my quail cage build thread yet?

No I hadn't. Will check it out. Thx!

I will check it out too. Thanks Kiki.

I have to also say/admit to stalking a few people on Instagram who have bought eggs from this place and I have not yet come across anyone who bought eggs and hatched them and had their quail lay anything as blue as what the pictures look like.

That stinks :/ maybe you would have better luck with this place lol

Yes I am still going to make the rack of lamb. Haven't yet.

I was on my way home from a PT appointment when this happened. Hubby is working from home today and my son was home. We never let the dogs outside without a leash on except in their fenced in area. Hubby came out to run the goats out of our yard. Yelled for our son to come out and help. My son walks out the back door and before it fully shut, the dogs came bolting out of the house. They've NEVER done this before. But instead of attacking the goats.... they rounded them up? :th They didn't really know what to do once they had them all together, as in running them door the driveway back towards their home. They just kept circling them to keep them contained. The video isn't very great but it's a recording of the playback recording on my computer. The split shot is the view from the camera of our driveway and the camera from our front yard. Then I just double-clicked on the driveway shot so it went bigger since they were just in that frame. Got them trotting back home and the dogs nabbed, secured and back in the house. I was so scared that if my dogs ever got out when they were down here that they would end up attacking them. Especially my pit/lab mix, Maggie. Buster is a lab/pyrenees mix. My dogs bark a mean game from inside the house. And one time at night, something was out around the house because Maggie was going nuts. Hubby put Maggie on the leash and went to investigate. He turned the corner of the house and WHAM! Maggie snatched something in her jaws. Turned out to be an opossum. This could've ended bad. Instead, is it weird to say that I am kind of proud and impressed by my dogs? I never would have thought they could be herder dogs. Needless to say, hubby had ANOTHER talk with our neighbors.
You should be proud! Your dog ARE impressive, and good dogs too.:) Awesome you got the video.:clap

Now it's summer for an hour and a half time. Then I will add potatoes.

I have not seen goat meat in my "regular" grocery stores but the regular ones do carry lamb.
Have a local Indian Food place that serves goat or chicken. VERY nice. VERY good chef. They will ask you for the level of heat. You've been warned. Scald your tonsils is an option. Wanna do lunch? ;) Everyone is invited.

I've bought a whole kid before from a butcher shop. Crazy Lady nixed it. I didn't age it long enough. Should try it again. She does like venison. Goat is not that different. Lamb, on the other hand, can be pungent.
