➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I thought it was only fair that I continue my research for Conan, especially after yesterday's shenanigans regarding the color and sparkle of my blood. You're WELCOME.

This is what I could find in my hunt for Swedish Flowers so far. Greenfire farms are in Fl. and ship day old chicks. Apparently they were the one of the first to breed them in the US (at least this is what the auction site I found them on claimed). In 2014, they imported unrelated bloodlines and are now selling the offspring.

Natural Ark is located in Colorado, so not as far from you as Florida, and they do not ship day old chicks. They are a few weeks old before they ship.

Meyer only has 63 available for May 13th and you can only order 3. Some reviewers claim that these are not actually Swedish Flower hens at all (Miller fleur leghorn perhaps). The question is regarding leg color, floppy combs and their 'flowers'. Although, I do know that they aren't bred for any specific color, i'm not qualified to verify their authenticity. However, if i'm going to order a fancy schmancy chicken, i'm probably not going to order from a giant hatchery like Meyer...

I think you should buy a couple from Greenfire AND Natural Ark...for research purposes. :old
To the best of my knowledge, Greenfire Farms is the only one that imported Swedish Flower Hens into the U.S. They have made at least two separate imports with the second batch being the Jill Rees line which are considered the show line while the first batch is considered their production line. I heard that they made a third import but do not know this for sure.

As far as I know all Swedish Flower Hens in the U.S. are descended from the Greenfire Farms imports.

Do you know where yours came from?
Knowing what I know now, I would love to get my hands on each of the lines and breed them... that is, if all of my chicken plans weren't on hold for the moment. Conan... do this!! I promise to be your first customer!

Mine came from all over the U.S. but the original source of all of them was from Greenfire Farms.

I try to stay away from the Jill Rees line because in my experience they have a tendency to lay green eggs rather than blue eggs. Once the brown egg gene is present, it is almost impossible to eliminate it.

If a person feels the need to SFHs, I recommend going straight to the source (Greenfire Farms) so that you are dealing with the ones that are the least inbred rather than from any of the secondary sources. I also highly recommend paying the extra for live chicks as all mine came from shipped eggs and ended up costing far more than the day old chick prices available. My experience is that SFH hatching eggs do not travel well.

I peed in my pants reading back.
Soaking wet.

I haven't thrown them away yet.
I'm considering ordering some of that shoe glue stuff.

The tape is doing its job so I can't show you how broken they are.

I couldn’t eat any eggs this morning as we are saving them so instead I had some GF oatmeal (which I burnt/got stuck to the bottom of the pan but was still pretty good) with organic maple syrup on it, some of the spinach, baby bok choy, baby Swiss chard mix sautéed in the ghee again, some of the goat milk yogurt with blueberries and organic honey on it, and some celery with my organic peanut butter which was practically all liquid and splashing everywhere and took forever to stir together LOL so I had to put it on the plate to dip the celery in/just eat the PB by the spoonful rather than spread the PB onto the celery like I usually do but it was alright ha I didn’t eat all the celery though, only two pieces. And water. And I ate in record time, like under 10 minutes. Actually most of it was under 5. Wolfed the greens down first then the oatmeal then started in on the yogurt, had a few bites, and could have been done with all that in 5 but decided to eat the celery first so something sweet and yummy could be the last thing I tasted/ate since the celery and PB is kinda gross but made myself eat it for the protein and benefits lol so because the celery was chewy that added the extra 5 alone for just that and then wolfed down the yogurt. But if I didn’t have the celery I would have been done with the entire meal in 5 minutes. Was in a hurry. Late for work. Even though I got up an hour, hour and a half earlier than usual. But I didn’t really get up. ****ed around on my phone all morning.

Leftover steak and sautéed vegetables again for lunch. The same mix as before, the spinach, baby bok choy, baby Swiss chards. Was gonna make it with kale and spinach this time or just have a regular salad but idk. I don’t really like plain lettuce/greens. It’s gross lol gotta start eating it more though and some are better than others but I like the taste of the cooked greens, especially with a bit of olive oil or ghee, and some salt and pepper, much better lol maybe when I grow my own lettuce again this year I will like it better.
