➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

AS long as you are only dealing with chickens, yes. If you are dealing with mixed flocks, chick starter is only good for chicken chicks. It is not appropriate for quail chicks which is where gamebird starters and all flock or flock raiser feeds are appropriate.

Thanks, that makes sense. Although the numbers seem similar on all of them? Which is why I was curious if maybe it was more of a marketing thing but maybe there are slight differences I am missing?

I figured for quail though it wouldn’t be appropriate. But they’re usually kept in a separate area anyway, right?

A lot of people run chickens, ducks, turkeys, etc., together. For those, All Flock would work too, right? I know it has slightly lower numbers of some stuff but surely they wouldn’t advertise/market it for everybody if it wasn’t safe?

That said, I don’t see mention of quail on either of the all flock/flock raiser type tags??

No...I would not feed my quail all flock.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Thank you. In the reviews on the sites some people said they fed it to their quail but most people seem to use it for chickens, turkeys, ducks, etc. and there is no mention of quail on the tags so I don’t think I’d feel safe using it for them. Though it does mention pheasants? Which are a game bird too, right? So idk. Just there don’t seem to be any game bird feeds at my TSC :hit I might have to try our other feed store and see if they have anything like that.

I'm pretty sure turkeys need game bird feed too.
I'm also pretty sure you can order it online and have it shipped free to your store.

Now I’m confused cause it says you can feed it to turkeys but on the site it also says to feed a game bird feed for the first 8-10 weeks? So I think after that it’s safe? On the bag I think it just lumps all the species together and says over 7 weeks.

I don't believe that it is required to report the niacin levels on the tags. The other ingredients being listed is because of USDA regulations. You actually have to contact the manufacturer to find out the niacin levels.

Flock Raiser and All Flock typically have 55 ppm niacin which is fine for all but one breed of duck. There is one duck breed that needs 70 ppm niacin. @casportpony knows which breed that is.

The key is that the All Flock and Flock Raiser are really for adult birds. It is not for keets, poults, ducklings or goslings.

Okay it's probably okay for grown turkeys but not for baby ones.
