➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

While out filling water tubs late this afternoon, we had a visitor....a pristine white homing pigeon. She was smaller than other homers we have seen. She had a red leg band and may have separated from other homers released.
She landed in the drive between the ducks and the free ranging chickens. The chickens ignored her. The ducks were curious and followed her around as she picked thru the gravel in the drive. When she flew up to the barn roof I set out some mixed grains and a bowl of water up on a ledge near her. After nibbling and drinking our visitor flew to the northwest.
We often have homing pigeons on maiden flights simply drop in for a rest.
A few years ago a grizzle homer visited. He had lost several flight feathers and was tired. We put him in a cage and cared for him (feed, water, and treated for mites) until we could locate the owner using his leg band numbers. Then we met the owner halfway to return the homer to his owner...love a happy ending.
:highfive:
Homer are so intelligent they seem to know the right places to land for some help when they need it!

We have never had pigeons in our barn so if a single or a few show up, they usually have leg bands indicating they are homing pigeons on a flight. The grizzle's owner said that that bird might even make our place a regular stop on his flight pattern since he stayed so long and received good care. Haven't seen him since.
A homing pigeon is rarely lost unless there has been a storm or a frightening attack by a hawk.
So when one shows up, I always set out food and water high up above my birds even though the homers would get down on the ground with my poultry.
I really don't want them mixing very long with my birds. Most breeders of homers take really good care of theirs, but the grizzle was covered with feather mites. Once caught, he was housed separated in a private cage away from my birds. He was the last bird to be tended each day. Didn't want any possible contamination.

Yes, they are growing quickly! The previous owner made an early morning delivery of six 6 week old kittens covered in fleas stuffed in a small cardboard box addressed to the vet. She found the box when she opened her clinic. She put out an adoption notice on social media after innoculating them and treating for the fleas.
So no history on the parents. Piebald is not a well known color variation here according to our vets when I took them in for their 12 week shots.

I have a nice big digital scale I use in soap making. I set a bucket on it, zeroed out the weight of the bucket and put each kitten in for weighing. When I weight live birds, I use a paper grocery bag as the container.

Younger brother names his first cat Her Pees because she would pee in the corner instead of her litter tray. Took him the longest time to break that habit.
Payback came when an old college buddy asked him "Do you still have Herpes?" in a crowded swanky restaurant in Marina Del Rey where they were meeting some blind dates.
Took some explaining....

For sure!
Sparkle sounds like a beautiful furr baby.
That is why we got Hazel and Pomme Tom...to help the black snake in the barn to minimize the mouse population.

Thank you for explaining! That is very interesting. We don’t really get pigeons or anything like that here so it’s interesting to me ha I mean, in the cities there’s wild ones all over, but I’ve never seen a homing pigeon. Although one time there was this cool like piebald looking bird, not sure if it was a pigeon or a dove, that hung around for a bit. But didn’t really get close to it and didn’t see any leg band but I didn’t get close enough to see so there could have been one. Think he was here like a day or maybe a few days then disappeared. I hope he didn’t get eaten.

Do you think the grizzle was just out for a long time and picked up the mites? Or bad care?

And oh wow! Those poor kittens! :hit

Our previous cats were found together as kittens in a plastic garbage bag* behind a restaurant :hit people suck!

They were brothers, Fluffy Tiger (we couldn’t agree on a name so we combined them and called them what we wanted haha) and Mittens. Fluffy ran away when he was about a year old though and never came back. :hit We think Mittens maybe chased him off but we don’t know. :hit

Although my mom swore she saw him one time several years later so she always thought one of the older ladies in the condos in our neighborhood saw him loose and took him in. Which is a definite possibility. He was a gorgeous cat. And I swore I saw him in our driveway/woods one time too. So could be. One can hope anyway. :fl

That was a long time ago though. Mittens passed away at 9 from what we think was dental disease or maybe coyotes but we don’t really know. Never came back one day. He was indoor/outdoor. Luna turned 9 in August so it was probably at least like 17 years ago we would have had Fluffy.

Anyway, they were both awesome cats. Orange tigers, Fluffy was, of course, fluffy. Long haired. Mittens was short haired and double pawed and had little white mittens. I don’t think I have any pictures of Fluffy but I might.

Mittens was so sweet and loving. Huge love bug. So lazy too lol all he wanted to do was be patted all the time :lau he would sit in your lap for hours if you let him.

Luna is awesome too but everything is on her terms haha she has gotten more loving and calm as she has gotten older though. She used to be a bit of a wild thing running all over the place :lau

But anyway, Mittens was a huge love bug and the boys actually didn’t really like Luna at first because she was nothing like Mittens and seemed to mostly like me. Plus she’s technically my cat. They’ve started to come around though ha

Anyway, Mittens once survived a coyote attack. My dad found him and carried him all the way back down the driveway (our driveway is long) and nursed him back to health. They were very close after that not that they weren’t close before.

Him and our yellow Lab Bailey were also best friends. It was adorable. They would sleep together all the time.

Luna and Gator never really quite achieved that but they did eventually gain a mutual respect for each other and would sit in the same room together or kind of close to each other on purpose haha never really snuggled though.

*Though my brother insists it was a paper bag but I say it was definitely a garbage bag haha we’ll never know for sure because we didn’t actually rescue them ourselves, we adopted them. Not that it matters. Moral of the story is some jerk just threw them away like garbage.

And ooooohhhhhh boooooyyyyyy what a name!!! :lau

@KDOGG331 pray tell what are you getting inspected?

Caught up....now going out to feed and water all my birds.
No one spontaneously combust....

:lau

My car :lau

And I’ll try :lau

first and last week of the month is the busiest to get cars inspected or driver's licences or anything that expires the end of a month. Everyone is getting it done before or just after it expires

That makes sense!! Thankfully there were only a couple people ahead of me so it didn’t take too long. Though one lady got there right when we did but slightly before so got ahead of us. But that’s okay. I definitely fall into the “just after it expires” category. :lau

But good news is now we basically got a free month cause it’s September instead of August now. :lau

Although it’s a lease anyway and due soon so that probably doesn’t really matter.

Also the treads were pretty worn down but the middle/in between the treads was still deep enough to be fine for a little while and to pass and probably be fine for winter. But he did tell us about it.

We were supposed to turn it in at the beginning of August but we extended it another 6 months so that’s why. If we had turned it in, we wouldn’t have had to worry about the tires haha and we still might not. Idk.

We thought it was the end of August but found out somewhat last minute it was actually the beginning (my dad got it wrong) so we wanted to not have to worry about it when we drove up to Soulfest and also I still don’t have another car yet and need to figure out what to do next, whether I lease something else or whether we buy this one or what, so that’s why we extended it. Need time to think. And also we wouldn’t have had a car to drive to NH for Soulfest if we handed it in haha

Still need to decide what to do. I’m not sure I like the Subaru anymore. Not very comfortable. Thinking of getting a RAV4 but idk. Want one of those bright blue ones :lau

@mixedUPturk Mine are the monozygotic kind of twins.

So handsome! Boy i bet theyre a handful though! I might need some iron bars for my windows when these guys are older :gig

Work choice discourages jewelry. Haven't worn a ring in over two decades. Something about having your finger ripped off. They even had pictures. :sick

To answer your other question, yes, I am that good looking. I have been compared to Sam from that TV show. He is the tall good looking one.

Ahem. I wish hot. Closer to tepid. I'm sure she has a great personality. No one can compare to Crazy Lady though. :love

Yes i know the danger, have u seen the rubber rings? DH wants one of them but im not sold yet.

I love these kids.

Thanks me too ;)

I firmly believe that everyone should pee in their pants at least once a day.
