➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

So sorry.

I had a Beagle that had a cancerous growth on her rib cage. I had it removed. After watching the pain and misery she went through recovering from the surgery, I promised myself that I would never subject a dog to that type of surgery again.
But we put people through it

Interesting. Do keep us updated. RoW is expensive and can be handled badly.

Do you know if you will get a valve station installed or nothing on the surface? Brother dealing with pump jacks in his 40 acres.

No, fortunately there won't be a valve station, just pole markers for the pipeline on each cross fence.
I informed the RoW negotiator that any above ground valves or data equipment would need to be fenced to keep the cows from using those for scratching posts. He looked a little surprised and quickly said we would not have anything above ground since they didn't intend to bring in another pipeline to join it.

Heard they are good. Taste like squirrel.

Do you have nutria in Oklahoma? I know Louisiana is offering bounties on them. They are tearing up the levees.
Yes, but they are in south east corner of the state.

Good luck. These companies have a tendency to change the rules after the fact especially when ownership of the pipeline changes hands.
That's exactly why we are so concerned! This is a huge pipeline project under a shell company masking big oil companies. They sent out a slew of registered letters with all kinds of instructions for responding. They apparently thought that many would be dazzled by the golden dollar signs and sign and return the contract quickly...saving them the expense of the negotiation process.
My BIL advised my hubby to "sign that in a hurry before they change their minds!"
I said "No!" after just reading the first two items of the contract. He thought I was being paranoid. Thankfully, hubby knows that I have dealt with my mom's oil leases and now do that for my sister. He agreed I should visit with our attorney who also handles lots of oil issues.

We have a pre-existing pipeline across the far northwest corner of our section that is owned by a small oil company. No problems with them. Fortunately it is in a flood plain so only good for pasture...not suitable for homes. That has only had one repair in the 20 years we have owned this farm.

Ack
My grandma had electrical company take a 300' wide 10 acre section, they have since add pipe lines. They are currently coming about 10' on my property "trimming' trees. They are concerned about the roots damaging the pipeline.
They leave a big mess, chew up fences and ft long pieces of barb wire are flung 50' in the pasture.
They spray herbicides that drift
I used to rent back the property and they kept leaving gates open, hitting the fences and scaring the horses. They were supposed to give notice, but it came certified mail and showed up after the scheduled time

I can use email and telephone contacts.

Do you have a state regulatory board?
They are not supposed to come on your property unless they have legal RoW and that is to only service the right of way. They can cut limbs that encroach into the RoW.
And they are responsible for any damage they do to your fences that are outside the right of way easement.
Documenting the issues you have with them helps with the board.
They electric company is just as bad as the oil companies with pipelines. The spray they use in Oklahoma is a combination of Remedy, Round-up and another herbicide. It kills everything! They spray the fence row under the power lines along our gravel road. When they sprayed one summer five years ago and killed swaths of hay meadows ready for cutting, several of us farmer/cow men contacted our Electric Co-op and complained. We got compensation and assurances that this would not happen again.

I didn’t mean to sound like such a downer. I’m actually pretty content with how it all went—I mean, they didn’t find anything, right? It’s just a depressing subject in general I guess.
I got several comments about how good he looks for a 12 year old golden retriever, which makes me real proud. :)

All of us dog owners and former dog owners understand and sympathize with you and your situation.

I typed up an essay about Triumph’s appointment but deleted it all.

TL;DR— we ruled out some very bad stuff (bone cancer, cancer in his lungs, and any severely degenerated/thinning spinal discs).
We found degenerative disease in his elbows (either arthritis or dysplasia, doesn’t really matter).
We could not diagnose his neck and back pain without very expensive testing, so we are left with either soft tissue cancer, spinal nerve sheath tumor, or a herniated/bulging disc(s).
That being said he is now on NSAIDs (please spare me the lecture) and Gabapentin for nerve pain. If that doesn’t stick then we will be back to discuss steroids, but I’m not putting him through chemo or surgery. We are looking at quality vs. quantity of his remaining years.
so yea, good news.. I think. It was a stressful day.

I woke up with a horribly sore throat and a throbbing headache. Thankfully class was cancelled today.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. My beagle has a growth and they say it's just fatty tissue. My brothers labs both got biopsies and two of his labs died within months of each other. He told me that they were perfectly fine until the day he got the biopsy and they decided to do medical intervention. He said it was awful and he would never put another dog through that ever again. Both of the dogs were siblings too and his wife was horrified to the point they won't get another dog.

My beagle is really healthy and if she started getting sick of course I'd be knocking down the vets door. She gets her checkups and the vet agrees with my stance about medical intervention such as chemo. He actually tries to use less invasive measures because he too believes in quality of life vs quantity.

I look at quality of life vs quantity. I would rather my dog live its last days happy than have my dog suffer for years or months.

It's truly up to the owner what they would like to do with their dog or animal, but I have my strong beliefs on what I would and have done in those situations.

:hugsbig hugs! You're an amazing animal owner!

:hugs Thank you. I needed to hear that today.
I love this dog more than (almost) anything. I’m dreading the day he tells me “enough,” but I’m also comforted that I know him so well to know when he’s done.
I have seen some owners drag their pets through some rough treatment on purely selfish justifications. It’s very sad for everyone involved and it’s always a bad day for the vet in charge.

On a side note, Triumph also has some fatty growths on his tummy/chest area. They’re almost impossible to find through his fur and we all decided they were most likely harmless lipomas. At his age he’s earned the right to some lumps and bumps. :)

My beagles lump is on her side almost by her armpit. It doesn't bother her so the vet said it's fatty tissue and to not stress so I haven't. We rescued her from a hunter who no longer wanted her since she was gun shy. She's been my buddy ever since.

My pug has seizures and we took the option of treating them all naturally (real CBD) she used to have them two times a week, now she has one maybe every 6 months sometimes she goes 8 months. I had a dog when I was 18 that they put on phenobarbital for seizures and the dog passed away because of the medication so I never did medication again unless it was a life or death situation. It made the dog literally go crazy, I am still horrified from what I saw in those 2 weeks she used those meds.

I think all of us dog owners can understand why we either say yes to medical intervention or not. We all have our reasoning. Your dog is loved and knows it is :hugs
