A plastic bin or cardboard box lined with foil and paper towels and a cookie cooling rack for a top with a 75 watt light suspended above works pretty good for a short term brooder.
My grandmother would use an old wash tub (round tin) with 1" hardware top next to her wood stove. Sometimes put a tea towel over the top to hold the heat.

That's a good idea. I have dedicated brooders/lamps, I just need to get them out and cleaned up—they're still in storage outside from last year. I recently got new storage bins so I can now keep my offseason chick supplies inside.

Meat rabbits, but the breeders are more like pets. I have mixes and purebred Rex, these new kits are half Rex. The kits that are due next should be purebred Rex.

We want to do meat rabbits some day. I'm learning first before I jump into anything.

Working on Christmas goodies...
Made Aunt Bill's Brown Candy yesterday...3 pounds.

Making one more batch today.
Then making the dough for the pecan crisps and freezing it to make it easy to cut the 1/2 inch squares for baking.
Tomorrow will make the almond toffee.
Too bad two of the daughters are on the KETO diet.

I added two Brahma mix chicks yesterday so we now have 16 chickens total. 2 roosters, 7 hens/pullets, and 7 chicks. Hoping all the chicks are pullets. I'm not good at the guessing the sexes, but hopefully I chose correctly.

In the spring we will have lots of eggs!

Look what we got today!
This is from NormaJean, Annabelle’s duckling. Her first egg. Awwww and it’s green shelled! Xena and Annabelle lay white eggs so I definitely know it is hers. And the other 2 haven’t laid since they started to go through their molt. I’m assuming they will start back up closer to spring. I didn’t expect NormaJean to start laying during winter but surprise! Now I need to go catch up again. I’m behind Lol!
