➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

These chicks are from the hatching eggs. I ended up with 9 out of 13. 10 made it to lockdown but one didn’t pip. :( and I had 3 early quitters. But I still think that’s great for my first ever hatch and shipped eggs lol

Anyway, the chicks hatched Thanksgiving weekend so they’re 3 weeks old right now. Can’t believe they are 3 weeks old already. :hit

And yes, they are from Meyer again and they are an assortment. Ordered 12, got 13, and ended up with like 8 different breeds in the assortment which I thought was so cool. At least one of each hatched too. :D

I ended up with an Easter Egger, a Barred Rock, a Rhode Island Red, a Black Australorp, a Blue Andalusian, a Buff Orpington, a Lavender Orpington, and two Welsummers.

ETA:

Here is a link to the post with chick pics. :D

Need to get updated ones.

Awww! How exciting! I wonder if your Blue Andalusian will actually turn out to be Blue. Mine is black. But the website says that the babies can turn out to be blue, black or splash so... :idunno Since mine turned out to be black, then do I call it a Black Andalusian or is it still a Blue Andalusian? And I was thinking.... she will still have a blue gene, right? So if I ever try to hatch an egg from her, will black be dominant and the blue gene buried? I wonder what would happen if I hatched an egg from a her and Elvis pairing since he is a porcelain? Hmmm. She is such a skittish neurotic mess though. I'd end up with a smaller, more flightier (literally) and skittish neurotic mess. And it'd probably be male since that would be my luck. :gig Would be interesting. :caf

I was sick of them being in the house. They're fully feathered so they're fine to be outside. It was 19 out last night and they survived it so I assume they'll be fine from here on out!
i put my christmas chicks out last year at round 4 weeks....overall they did fine but we had 1 bad cold spell where wind chills hit negative 30’s and I locked all the adults and the babies in big coop with heat.....they managed to bust open a door and 2 of the babies ended up with frostbite on 1 foot. both lost some toes, but as far as i know the pullet is still healthy, happy, and laying otherwise!

Thanks!! Definitely exciting!! They’re such cute little fluff balls!! But they’re growing fast! Big, messy toddlers now :lau

Ans so far the Andalusian is looking black too so we’ll see.

I think I have at least 3 cockerels lol

And that would be an interesting cross!!

Christmas break!!! other than an equipment repair that I have to go in for on Monday, I am officially out of the office for 10 whole days!!!! weather forecast shows a warm, wet Christmas with some nearly 60* days so i can spend some quality time with my birds!!
Unfortunately DH is his usual sick whenever a “vacation” is scheduled but I’m loading him with meds hoping he shakes it before the end of the weekend as i would love at least one more day to hunt in addition to enjoying Christmas festivities that we have planned.
