Thanks! I feel like a total idiot/jerk but I guess now I know.
It happens, I have 8 lb hens the hawks trys to get.
The hawk will be back.

Sorry he was your favorite. But at least it was a cockerel that you might have to get rid of. Count it as a learning experience. :hugs

I haven't used a mini fridge, so I'm not sure exactly how different it'll be from a cooler, but in general, you'll need about as much as follows:
Two light sockets with 40--60w bulbs
Two fans (I used 64 CFM)
A thermostat (digital or wafer)
An adapter for the fan
A sheet of insulation, for the back vent
A two by four, for the back vent
More thin wood for the back vent
Caulk
Plexiglass for windows
Sealant for windows (I used hot glue & duck tape)
An extension cord & a few bits to splice stuff together
Assorted wire nuts
Two sheets of plexiglass or similar (I used cutting boards) for heat baffles
Something to make racks inside (your choice)
I actually am trying to write up my most recent build right now. I just need to find the stupid photos that accidentally got corrupted and now only exist on BYC months back in my posting history. :barnie :duc

I based my build on this. I changed it a bit to my specifications, since my thermostat required different wiring & I had different stuff on hand than she did.

Refrigerator has coil in the walls. So if it starts hissing refrigerant you know what is going on

That would be a good idea

I don’t think she would eat it. She’s weird and only likes cans lol I’ve tried giving her real meat before both cooked and raw and she turns her nose up lol or takes like one bite then drops it.

Besides, I don’t think I could do it. :hit

And what if whatever it was had rabies or something?

You crack me up. Do you always think the worse thing? My mind wouldn't go straight to rabies. I honestly would be thinking about butchering it for the dogs 😂

That’s true and I have had a hawk get an adult before but it still sucks. I have secured it now though so if they do get into the corner, nothing can get them back there or see them. I need to get some hardware cloth to wrap it with but for now it’s kind of a mix match of stuff haha

And yeah, that’s true. I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep any anyway. Wishful thinking I guess.

But yeah, now I know. But these chicks have just been so much hassle and heartbreak I think I just wanna get rid of them all. I mean, they already turned out to be basically all boys anyway and then the one I thought I might keep gets killed. I don’t think I should keep any now. Idk.

But maybe one of the other chicks will step up and make me rethink

It has two racks already in it so I should be able to use those and put trays in it. I'm going to experiment. I have to gut the fridge first.
