ETA puppies near me are 300 to 600 five years ago haven't checked lately

St Bernards are not as popular as they once were

Oh wow he must have been really good quality!

And wow that’s cheap!

Around here you can’t even find a puppy for less than like $600 or $800. Occasionally maybe $400 if it’s a more rural area or like out near my grandparents in PA but usually not. Even for Craigslist ones etc.

And around here all the rescues are like at least $450-$600+ for mutts with unknown histories.

If I were to go to a quality show breeder that does all the testing and has won and all that, probably no less than $1500. Around here some of them are $2500. But those are pretty expensive even for around here. But even so, most are like $1800. With the occasional $1500. And I did find one breeder in Indiana once that was $1200 but yeah.

I know in some places you can find quality purebreds for like $600 or $800 or way less but not around here.

Around here they gouge your eyes out even for mutts!!

Hell, even Gator was expensive.

I should note those aren’t specifically St Bernard prices, never looked into those, but have looked into various other breeds over the years and it always seems to be about the same

Depends on how popular a breed is. The lastest fad always costs more

Hm that makes sense but I do feel like most of the show ones are similarly priced across breeds, at least around here, but I suppose if I looked I could find cheaper ones and I’m sure the popular ones are probably more expensive. I’ve mostly looked at Labs, Goldens, and Aussies so popular breeds.

But that said, even non show dogs can be a lot. I’ve seen a lot just throwing two dogs together or only breeding for blue eyes or certain coat color or whatever and nothing else and still charging over $1000 and also there really aren’t any pet stores selling puppies around here anymore, they all closed, but they would charge crazy high prices too. Like thousands and usually they were mutts. “Designer” whatever. I guess it’s just the region because when we were in FL and GA, I looked at their Craigslist just for fun, and dogs were super super ridiculously cheap down there. Like up here people usually charge at least $150-$200 or more for a “rehoming fee” but down there there were quite a few for less than $100. $75, even $25. Also up here everybody always flags the dog rehoming posts for some reason so there usually aren’t any.

I found 3 breeders in IL that have website.
One doesn't have prices and look the best as far as breed standard

One has limited AKC registration puppies for 1k but parents are crummy looking St Bernards

The 3rd has limited registration and fairly good looking parents for 1500

I'm going to get pics of them when we bring them out. He just finished his brooder. He connected the dog kennel to it so he can lock them in the kennel at night with their brooder plate.

My mom's teacup Yorkie cost me $800. He's only 3 lbs all my dogs have been under $150.

Lucy was $2000 from an AKC beagle breeder that's well known in VA. We got her for free though but we go all her paperwork even the amount they paid for her. Why you'd spend $2000 on a dog just to give her away for free at age 3 is beyond me!

Totally understandable! The only reason I know anything about the prices is because I used to research breeders/look at their sites hah haven’t in a while but did for all kinds of breeds.

So it would appear it’s pretty similar to here then, maybe slightly cheaper.

The prices have really gone up a lot

But then again I look at how much my brother paid for all their rescues and think it’s really not that much more to get a quality one
