⭐ Kiki's Year Long 🌶️

The broody that was mothering all the chicks has been chasing them off for 2 days. She went to roost and left the chicks to fend for themselves at 5 weeks. It seems that the other hens I had tended to them for longer than this. What is average time for the hens to leave the chicks?

In other news, the broody hen laid her first egg yesterday so she is officially over mothering 22 little chicks.

I must admit watching 22 screaming chicks run from the coop, where they last heard their mother hen to the normal sleeping place and then back and forth for 30 minutes was amusing. I shouldn't enjoy their distress but no one told them they were weaned and I think she meant it. Doesn't want any of them around her and pecks viscously at them. Afraid this means that I need to put them on the roost until they figure this stuff out. All 22 of them. Anyone need a cockerel? The two older cockerels (first hatch of the year) get invited to supper this weekend. They are very vocal. :hmm

Oh wow! At least she follows through!! My broody I had tried that then jumped back down off the roost every time they cried and slept in the nest box with them. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ even at 8+ weeks. Heck, she even allowed her full grown sons to stay in there with her. The daughters figured it out pretty fast 😂🤣 eventually one done did too. Other son stayed with mom. Granted this mother adopted them from my other broody but still. Followed them around for two weeks till the other broody eventually gave up at like a few weeks I guess

Also I apparently cannot remember how to properly reply on byc. And I cannot believe the daiquiri drive thru is how you introduced me Kiki! Good to know I’m remembered for the important things. ;)
Not dead Jewels!
How are the chicks doing?

I worked right up until we got into the truck :th I had to put away 90% of the clean laundry in order to find mr muddy’s clothes and we had to run a few errands, load everything and of course there were a few unexpected hiccups!!! I’m past due for plumbing problems and so they started today with the washer overflowing, one of the baby bunnies jumped out of the cage last night so we put them all out on the ground, and the s10 was stuck in the mud and the wipers went out so we had to unhook the truck in order to run errands.
