When we were on a road trip to the four corners area, DW, DD and I stayed at the Wigwam Motel on US 66 in Holbrook, AZ.
We were maybe a hundred yards from what is apparently the main railroad line across the US. Every 10 minutes a huge freight train would rumble by. I drifted off knowing I was literally feeling the pulse of the Nation.
In the morning DD, who was on a cot on the floor, and couldn't sleep DID NOT see the romance of the situation.

I laughed out loud. Poor girl.

My old house was about a mile from the tracks. No problems hearing it there. Last week one of the trains here derailed. They've been letting trainsg go by, but they've been busy fixing the damage between trains.

The Amtrak passenger trains are much quieter than the freight trains.
