Artemis sighed, and agreed, finally, to help her friend. She hadn't been fooled by Amy seeming disinterested in Jaxson's company, but agreed despite her dislike of him to help her friend since she was eager to see him.
"I owe you one!" Amy called to her as she left the kitchen.
Jaxson stood as she came out and greeted her with an awkward smile.
"Hi," Amy said.
"That's better than yesterday," Jaxson chuckled. "Hi."
"Hey, I'm sorry about yesterday. It was kind of a shock, having you just appear that day of all days. I was blunt. I apologize," she said sincerely.
"No, please don't, there's no need to apologize (

One Republic, anyone?). I'm equally at fault, or more so since I actually knew where to find you." He suddenly remembered his manners and beckoned for her to take the seat across, which she did. Silence fell between them for a minute, neither one sure what to talk about first. Finally, Jaxson broke it with, "Lovely place you've got here."
"Thank you," Amy said much too quickly. "I've poured my heart into this place for the past three years and it's really paid off."
Jaxson fiddled with his coffee cup as she replied. Three years time he had missed with someone who was like family. He groped for something to say when she finished. "You've got help, I see," was what came to mind and he said it aloud.
"Yes, Ar—Layla, she's just joined me here. She's been great so far." Amy cursed herself for the near slip up. She glanced over her shoulder towards the kitchen, wondering if Artemis had heard.

(Oh, great job Amy :p I don't recognize those lyrics but now these are the lyrics running through my mind: lately I've been, I've been dreaming hard about the things that we could be. But baby I've been, I've been playing hard. No more counting dollars we'll be counting stars

Artemis was carrying out a handful of drinks, and plates with breakfast items on them when she overheard Amy's coversation with Jaxson. She lost her balance as Amy nearly said her name aloud, but somehow managed to regain her footing. Cheeks flushed with embarrassment she carried the meals to the customers who had ordered them.

Simeon said solemnly "We would've been dead, captured, or done with a major battle by now. I would know." Simeon continued "The immediate search usually ends after a day. The target has always been killed by then, except one mission. They gave up."

Brooklyn nodded as if in understanding, but was not convinced.

(both are great songs :thumbsup )

Jaxson looked over, distracted as Amy was. He nearly stood when Artemis tripped but since she regained her balance, he figured it best to leave her and not add to any embarrassment.
"As I was saying, Layla is great. Yes. Positively great," Amy rambled. "And you? You and Vanessa, how goes things? Does she finally have her own office and everything?"
"Yeah, Vanessa's had her own for going on four years now," Jaxson replied hesitantly. This was a bad idea. Coming here, thinking it could be the same as it was then. Was she really just going to drop everything and talk about Nessie's office space?
Amy fiddled with her locket, nervous about how to go about this. One of them had to mention then, and he didn't seem to be taking it anywhere, so she started. "Jaxson, everything that happened in the past. It happened, no matter how we pretend it didn't." She lowered her voice to avoid eavesdroppers and continued. "Your parents are gone. Dad's gone, Ben's gone, my mom died last year, my remaining siblings are scattered, Vanessa hasn't talked to me in seven years and that's the fact of it all. But you and I are here. It's been a long time, but we're here." She reached across the table and set her hand lightly on his wrist. "Do you think we can put it all behind us?" Her voice was quiet now, but firm and she meant what she had said.

Simeon said solemnly, making sure his face was void of expression "I could return you to the Contenders or your friends."

Brooklyn returned a saddened expression. "I think I'd prefer that you take me home," she replied after some silence.

Artemis catered to all the customers, unable to take a break with all the work there was to be done. Meanwhile, at the back of her mind, she was worried over Amy being in Jaxson's company.

Brooklyn returned a saddened expression. "I think I'd prefer that you take me home," she replied after some silence.
Simeon nodded. He said softly "I suppose we should leave..." He wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend, but inside he knew that it would be best for her to be away from him.(do you remember his form or should I repost?)

Jaxson looked down at Amy's hand and thought carefully before answering. "I would love to, Amy. You know I would. But as you said, the fact remains that Vanessa hasn't talked to you and isn't probable to any time soon. It hurts her, you know. She knew I came here yesterday. She probably knew I would come today as well—"
"But she didn't stop you," Amy interrupted quietly.
"No," Jaxson said slowly. She had a point. If Nessie really hadn't wanted him to come, she would of made it clear.
A thought now occurred to Amy. "How come you are able to come in the middle of a week day, two days in a row?" She asked. "Are you not still doing the position your parents got you?"
"There was an incident in my sector day before yesterday," Jaxson said honestly. "Vanessa got me nearly a week off because of a minor injury." He stressed 'minor' to keep worry from Amy.

just realized how bad this looks to an outsider, specifically Artemis ;) )

Brooklyn nodded silently, and overlooked the room. But, of course, there was nothing to be gathered before they left.
(I remember ;) )
