"I feel like I just died." Artemis voiced despite her sore throat, being perfectly honest. The drugs gave her a state of complete numbness, but somehow it didn't mask the pain, she knew any relief she had was only a deception that would later be revealed when the drugs wore off.

"I feel like I just died." Artemis voiced despite her sore throat, being perfectly honest. The drugs gave her a state of complete numbness, but somehow it didn't mask the pain, she knew any relief she had was only a deception that would later be revealed when the drugs wore off.
"Well, thankfully you didn't," Vanessa said, smiling softly. She turned on her heel and, grabbing Jaxson's arm, pulled him with her to right outside the cell.
"Everything okay?" He asked concernedly.
Vanessa threw up her hands in exasperation. "No. No! We just about lost a vital piece to it all. She almost died."
"Hey, lower your voice please. This whole floor is under heavy surveillance, you know," Jaxson admonished.
Vanessa quieted down, but continued with her rant. "She almost died because a scientist, and a mad one at that, basically experimented on her. On her! Was he not warned beforehand that we didn't want her dead, we just wanted the dang information!"
Jaxson leaned over slightly to see how Artemis was faring before turning back to his sister. "Vanessa, shh, you're right. But what are you going to do about it?" He questioned.

Artemis pulled her knees against her chest, back against as she easily overheard the two's over exaggerated whispers. "You should have let me die." She muttered without looking up. "I still won't give you the information you seek. You should have let me die, would have saved you the trouble later on." Artemis was furious at herself for thinking even for a short time that they had really cared for her.

"What am I going to do about it? For starters, maybe I'll go up there and give Dr. Mythe a bit of his own medicine," Vanessa said angrily. She turned to leave but Jaxson pulled her back.
"Hey, calm down please. Angry doesn't suit you, and besides, what about her?" He nodded towards Artemis.
They had both assumed she'd be out of it by now, groggy and maybe sleeping, but she wasn't. She actually looked to be rather alert which meant she very likely had heard their heated discussion.
"Here, give her two of these in half an hour if she isn't asleep," Vanessa instructed as she pulled a bottle of aspirin from her pocket. "She'll need it, even after all I just gave her." Before Jaxson could argue, she yanked her arm from him and hurried off down the hall.
"Don't do anything you're going to regret!" Jaxson called after her, but she ignored him and turned towards the elevator. "Well, that was exciting," he muttered. He reentered the cell, going to the panel to turn on the shield. "I suppose you heard all that?" He asked Artemis.

"What do you think?" She questioned harshly without expecting him to reply. She glared at Zaxson, silently telling him that he should not come closer as he reentered her cell, before resting her chin on her knees and turning to stare blankly at the dull walls of her cell. Her anger kept her awake, along with the fear of being watched by Zaxson and security cameras while she slept. Her unconsciousness could be thought of as an advantage for those who saught her harm.
